Description
This lighthouse on Point Venus, Tahiti Nui, was completed in 1868 despite the fact that it is described with the date of 1867. In the early days of Tahiti's history this tiny point of land, adjacent to Matavai Bay, was used by some of the most important visitors of that era- Captains Wallis, Cook and Bligh. Until the 1820s, when Papeete became a more popular port of call, all visiting ships anchored in the area.
This picture was taken in April 2001 and later scanned.

I like how you have framed this interesting lighthouse with the trees Sig. The man taking a closer shot helps give depth and height. I'm fascinated by the amount of travelling you have acheived, thanks for saving the images for the rest of us to enjoy!

What is the cultural influence in this? It almost seems to have a Spanish flare. This is a lovely view and the history is marvelous. Capt. Bligh you say? Wow.
