BACKGROUND
I am a naturally curious person. Sometimes things come up in a conversation I'm having with someone and I think, "Gosh! I'd like to know what more people think about this topic!" Over the years I've chosen to take surveys in order to gather more information.
My real-life-walking-around friends are quite used to this sort of behavior from me, and they enjoy it when I come up with new things for them to think about.
This survey came about because of a conversation I was having with my friend Erik about outer space. Our take on the whole thing was SO different, I decided to ask other people what they thought.
I've received some very interesting responses from people, and thought it would be fun to open the survey to my friends and neighbors here on Renderosity.

THE SURVEY QUESTIONS
This is a two-part survey.
1. If you had the chance to put on a space suit and work on the outside of the space station, would you do it?
2. If aliens landed their spacecraft in front of you and said "get in, we're going for a ride," and you didn't have time to tell anyone where you were going, would you go?
Please feel free to just answer "Yes" or "No," but you may also elaborate if you wish. (Elaboration is MOST welcome!) :)
Oh - and it would be helpful if you would specify your gender! Most of you I know, but with some folk's avatars, it's tough to tell. Thanks!

You may be interested to know what I've discovered so far.
I surveyed 22 people today.
59% would work in space.
50% would get in the spacecraft and go with the aliens.
Of the people I surveyed, 13 were men.
85% of the men would work in space.
69% of the men would go with the aliens.
Of the people I surveyed, 9 were women.
22% of the women would work in space.
22% of the women would go with the aliens.

working in space would be great, imagine the view back down to earth! as for the aliens, as long as they were friendly...i would go! imagine the photos we could get! very strange topic but we are all a bit strange aren't we?
oh yes i would definatly do both !! provided as long as i knew i could come back home to my kids soon and bring my cameras lol!! ( more than a few months and i would go a bit crazy withoutthem i am afraid !!!... i am curious about everything as well ... i can never see enough of the discovery, history or learning channel...
No and No :o) Working on the outside of a space station doesn't really float my boat And as much as I'm curious about all things celestial and inter-stellar, I'm quite happy right here on good ol' terra firma and have no desires to go spelunking in space :o) ....wouldn't hurt to have a little tete à tete with 'em though ! Yes. Would love to work on orbiting astronomical technology. As for question #2, Most of my life I prayed for such. Up until 10 to 12 years ago I could be found on any cloudless night with my thumb stuck out. WAY out. But now, the meaning of life (for me anyway) is right here and sleeping in three little beds at this very moment. Good survey. Great idea.

A resounding yes to both questions. I'm sure the view from the space station is spectacular, but I'm sure the view from the outside is even better. It would be especially exciting to be untethered. As far as going with the aliens, I can see how that could be perceived as selfish, especially for someone with a family. But getting the chance to interact with an alien culture and see an alien world would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so I don't see how I could say no. Great idea for a survey, Tara. I won't be deleting this ebot, so it will be there to remind me to check back in a day or so.

Actually, if I was already out there on the space station, and something needed repair, I would gladly go out and experience a life changing adventure, without a doubt!!!!! As far as an alien saying, "get in, we're going for a ride" I'd say in your dreams!!!! I'd never go off with any stranger/alien that I didn't know. I've read to many stories about "probings" and weird abductions, and lost time... No way!!!!!!!! I'd rather be safe than sorry!!!! interesting survey!!!
NO and NO! I have incredibly strong feelings about space projects. Whilst so many people are walking miles just to collect a bucket of polluted water and carry it back across often war ravaged countryside, I wouldn't be out there anyhow,helping to spend millions of dollars.

Jeff, Male(I think). Yes I would love to work on a space craft in zero gravity, I get pressure pain in my **** LOL. Yes I would go for a ride but if I didn't have my camera, I would have to say no. Jeff, still male(I think). You crack me up.
Would I want to work in space? Hmmm... depends on what it is. But for the purpose of this survey, I guess a maybe would count as a yes. Whether they'd want me doing something on the outside is another matter altogether. As for #2... how do you think I got here in the first place. I'd like to think I'd go for it, especially if I knew I'd be coming back. Sure, having a camera would be nice to take along, but it's not a must have. However, I would HAVE to take some of my music, just in case the aliens don't have any music or what they have is awful. Plus, I could turn the aliens on to some of my favorite bands, who sometimes have songs about aliens and space. Or scare them. Maybe both. But more importantly, I'd like to see if other worlds tell the same kinds of stories we do, whatever the purpose or meaning. So, one and a half... yesses... yeses... yesi?

Yes, I definitely would work outside of the space station. The views would be magnificent and a once in a lifetime experience. As for going for a ride ...hmmm. I would love to go for a ride to see their technology and to see where they might take me but only if they would assure me that they would return me to my family...intact.

LOL...you're into the survey and polling business? No, I don't intend voting for any of the presidential candidates. To boldly go where few have gone before (followed by the theme from Star Trek). Now that I've gotten that off my chest, my answer to question #1: I'd love to venture outside of the spacecraft, but wouldn't due to extreme acrophobia. Answer to question #2: If you're familiar with the abduction phenomenon, you know you have no choice in the matter of whether you would or would not accompany aliens into their craft. Since they have complete control over your mind and body anyway, you go whether you want to or not. And, if you're lucky, they won't run tests and experiments on your bod, which can be most uncomfortable. Also, any contact with aliens could leave you at their beck and call for the rest of your life. As many reports have indicated, some aliens are benign, some hostile. Ergo, as an individual who doesn't like surprises or uncertainty, I wouldn't go. And Dogwaffle? What's that?!!
Yes to working outside the space-station. If the aliens were cute, or funny or both, I'd say, "SURE!" Might learn something important, or useful. Might ask them what their health care program is. Fear of "The OTHER" is mostly primitive atavism. Curiosity is one of human-kind's greater strengths. I'd mostly say yes to going. I find it hysterically funny that only 22% of women would go. I thought the myth was that 'Earth-Girls are Easy'!LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Oh boy... NO and NO for me. Not even with a camera in my hand...lol. As for my husband, he said absolutely yes to work in space. And then a No on the alien thing, because ... "Who said they'd be friendly"
Hey everybody, thanks for participating in the survey! Of course the survey isn't closed - surveys never close. You can still respond. I thought I'd give you the stats so far, though, and let you see how this has turned out! Between people I surveyed in my "real world" life and those of you who responded here on Renderosity, I got 50 responses to the survey. The general population: 70% of everyone surveyed would like to work in space 58% of everyone surveyed would wander off with aliens. Would you work in space? 86% of males said "Yes" 55% of females said "Yes" (It might be interesting to note that only 20% of the females I asked in real life wanted to work, but 83% of the females who answered here on RR would like to suit up!) Would you get in the space ship? 71% of males said "Yes" 41% of females said "Yes" (Again, 20% of the females I asked in real life would go, and 58% of RR females would go.) .......... These numbers might be SLIGHTLY off, because on a couple of you here, I had to guess gender. The reason the numbers for my real-life friends are different from in the caption is that more people responded to the survey after I posted here. .......... I'll look forward to more responses from those of you who feel moved to share. If I get a LOT more, I'll re-do the stats. THANKS SO MUCH, EVERYONE! :)
