Description
My yard is full of yellow popular trees, some quite large. On the branches of one tree is this, a lichen. When the wind blows down an old branch or a piece of the lichen appears I find a tiny thing and beautiful.
Lichens are essentially a fungus and alga living symbiotically, mutual benefit to both and it is called a lichen. These living things are very sensitive to air pollution.

I see so much of this on our trees around here but I don't always see it like this. The laciness of the moss has always been a favorite and I like the way you popped this out on the blurred background.
So beautiful and fragile looking. Remarkable capture and amazing photo.
Excellent !!!

Wonderful in full size, Tom, a delicate and very beautiful world. Hugs. Diane.
Absolutely gorgeous Tom... I adore!
That is superb! Perfect lighting and wonderful sharp focus, and I'm surprised that you got such beautiful dof at f9.
Great macro.
Lovely Tom as you say these plants are a great indicator of the purity of the air .. Must be nice place you live..
I know exactly what this is, living in the same general area as you. Sometimes it will cover most of a dead tree giving it the appearance of a bare spectral birch. Nature is beautiful even in decomposition.
wonderful image... sorry i missed it when it was first posted.
Really great macro.. wonderful composition and light!!
This is a stunningly gorgeous shot, and I happen to love lichens in all of their varieties. This image does exquisite justice to the subtle, hidden beauties that surround us. What strikes me the most about this is the fact that it seems to provide something of a narrative. I get the impression of a long and complex story being told here, not necessarily in words, as a bard might spin a yarn, but more as nature itself will reveal something of its essence. You've captured that here, and this is one of my favorite images!
great shot
