Description
Years ago in the USA every two lane road connecting the cities had the little privately owned motels; we called them "mom and pop" motels since locals owned and operated the places.
With better roads, interstate highways and large chains of lodging, the mom and pops lodging places are often seen as crusty hulks on a side road, remnants of the years since mom and pop left.

Amazing B§W with superb contrast and lighting Tom!
Excellent B & W ! , Thanks for the info , interesting, Ana
Beautiful pic, and most interesting info.
I always think of how many lives touched such a place, for a day, for a night, whatever. Excellent image.
Nicely executed shot, like that you chose B/W for it. : )
A trip into the past that at one time was my present. Great done in b/w and beautifully composed!
Great! I like this old place.
This is an amazing image, quite touching in a lot of way as well...places fallen into disrepair always fascinate me and this is a stunning example of both photography and social commentary. It makes me wonder at the stories that took place within such a place. Who stayed there? What were their lives like. On a sense, we may never know, but your photo captures some essence of what must have been and it's a great piece of art! Fantastic work!
We had alot of little Mom and Pop stores in our area. Wooden floors, etc. They were all pushed out of the way when IGA, Piggly Wiggly, and Kroger came in. Now they are all being displaced by the Wal-mart superstores. ...and they call it progress. Sad and made to appear even more sad and desolate with the BW treatment. Nice work. Again, it brought out some emotion.
Excelent b&w tone with a fine compo. Interesting info about these little motels, we don't have things like that here. Just a pub with a motel on a top floor.
Sadly, your story is all too true, Tom. Doing this in B&W was the perfect touch. It reminds me of another family-owned motel from the past. I think the family name was "Bates."
We have that on Dixie Highway after I-75 went through here in Michigan.
great capture...
Very nice shot, looks like this location has lots of potential. The only minor niggle is, I find, the wire on the left to be a bit distracting. Apart from that I like it lots! :)
real americana there!
I like this much:)
This is a very beautiful and very interesting image!
