Description
I took a lot of straight shots of this vase, and the pattern in the glass showed up okay, but shooting this with the flash brought out the details like crazy! Normally, I would have never done this. There was plenty of daylight, and the other shots turned out just fine. But a photographer friend of mine was standing there watching me shoot, and said, "aren't you going to take any with the flash?" * hahaha! * So I did.
He hasn't seen this yet, and I bet he'll be as surprised as I was to see how it turned out! Aside from cropping and taking out the bottom edge of a flower, I did no postwork. This is just how it came out of the camera.
I still prefer the way natural sunlight interacts with glass, but this was an experiment that turned out to be far more interesting than I imagined it would, so I thought I'd share it with you!

Excellent photography
Beautiful and interesting ! Splendid work ! Ana
very good
Nice use of props. Great idea. Aloha
phantastic shot.
This is lovely, Tara. Of course I can't compare it with the non-flash shots, but this certainly works. This light really brings out the colored parts of the glass.
Yes, I also like the flash on the glass -- it really makes the vase pop. Nice!
I love that vase.
I have a helpful friend who also repeats the "flash" theory to me when I shoot something and, amazingly, sometimes he's right. :-) I do like the pattern that is emphasised in the glass in this shot.
What a fabulous drape vase. Excellent shot.
Interesting shot.
...intriguing photo -- it's making me seasick!! ---( kidding ) ---- love the sharp definition of the upper two thirds - ( which fades a tad towards the base ) ----- but overall - I think this image has a lot of 'snap' to it ...( and that's a good thing - don't you think ? )
Holy waveforms, Batman, how exquisite can you get? The image is so fantastic and captivating....why, I'm virtually lost for any words describing my reaction to this stunning macro! The curvature alone in amazing! Overwhelming, to say the least, and stellar in all aspects, my dear! Kudos to you and your photographer friend.
Cool vase, excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful Shot. I love the swirling textures backed against the green. Awesome Comp
Very interesting! nice one Tara.
If you hadn't said it was glass, I would have sworn it was fabric, incredible!!!
takeing changes are you... good for you to try something diff. got to learn somehow. well done too
Sometimes I just take one image with the flash and one without just to see the difference? In your case it really paid off!!!! excellent!!!
Excellent shot- love how the vase turned out- it is interesting to use the flash during the day sometimes, it's amazing the difference it can make isn't it :)
Beautiful work....
This is beautiful!! Like a glass wrapping of a bouquet!!! Very cool!!!
Well it produced a very striking result!
Wonderful forms and lines. Great soft green color too with a spice of lighter green.
Really great results here, Tara... great image!
I do that quite often Tara, take some with and some without, I usually go without. I have a hotshoe flash as well as the internal flash, I prefer the hotshoe for best results, it is more powerful but has a zoom and diffusion facility. Most shots however are taken without flash, especially my macro shots. I love this vase, what I refer to as milky glass, and I must say it has turned out pretty good using the flash. I hope you are going to post one without though so we can have a comparison. I think maybe the flash has brought out detail that we may not see in the other version. I would say this is an excellent macro, especially so because you are going against the grain by using flash other than ring flash. Well done. Bravo!!!!!
This is really really stunning !!!!
What a fantastic macro. It really came out excellently with flash. So many details and i like that vase :)))
Excellent idea !
I like the results of your experiment, Tara. A splendid capture. Diane. xx
