Description
One of my customers (I am a pro illustrator) ask me to illustrate the cover of a book which the story is set in a hollow world.
The task is new for me and not so easy.
I've try to find on the net some artworks that portrait an hollow world lanscape, but seems to be that no one do something like that before...
On yesterday I've post a test render on my Renderosity gallery with a first visual solution in order to achive my goal, receiving some interesting suggestions from Renderosity users such as lordgoron, geirla and TheBryster.
After the useful suggestions, I've changed the landscape in background.
In this new artwork have I achived to interpret a realistic lanscape (as "realistic" can it be) of an hollow world?
More suggestions (if there are) are welcome! :)

Yess, this looks like a "small" hollow world, much more than the first version I commented, excellente work :)
mmm. It looks different, that's for sure. As for hollow... hard to tell. It's obviously subject to personal interpretation, but to me it should be a darker world, and, maybe with some transparency in it. Just my two cents. Have a cool sunday. Rodrigo
yes, i can see that you are getting an effect in the sky that look like a hollow world. nicely done. i tried a couple times to get a ring world effect (world wraps in a ribbon up into the sky) very tough to do. though someone else did it much better than myself.
Better. But you're right, it's hard to do. If it's a giant hollow sphere, maybe I would try to do it that way: put the landscape on the inside of a really big sphere (first a positive, then a slightly smaller negative and group them), and then do the same for a "cloud layer"... and use a really low (to the person) POV so it looks up into the "sky". But then there's the question of the light source (a big ball of fire in the sky? - don't know the story. Hmmm. Not so easy.
Very cool work!
A very tricky subject, well handled Luca ! For reference check out that old B&W (re-coloured now!) Jules Verne movie "Journey to the center of the Earth", the concept artists had the same problem to solve. Kool stuff & ~Cheers~
Hello again i hope this might give you an idea, this is from a fourth place winner at the Cg society contest" Eon inner worlds" from a fellow carrara artist it seems to be more of a tubeular enviroment the dynamics on the render are great great direction and flow add depth ! here is his link , "Thisltle down " http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?username=mmoir
Duo, Knowing that you are a Syd Mead fan like I. He has some excellent examples of the concept you are trying to create. I don't know if you have his book Oblagon there are several Ring World illustration that somewhat achieves what you are trying to do. "For the world is hollow and I can touch the sky."
I like both images... This is a Dyson sphere... The Ringworld that we keep talking about is a modified Dyson Sphere...
