...only the second goldfinch I have ever seen, and the first time to see one in my own yard.

A beautiful little chap and a lovely capture, how lucky to have him come to visit. He is quite different to our goldfinch
What a beautiful capture of one of my favorite birds. We get a lot of these in the spring and summer and they always amaze me with their beauty. They always travel in pairs so we always have at least two but frequently they come in flocks. I feed them niger seed and they love that, along with the sunflower seeds.
An excellent photo of this beautiful bird. We once had many of them here, but with the increased use of pesticides and herbicides their population has dwindled to almost zero now. I loved seeing them perched on the wild sunflowers eating seeds. The wind blows here most of the time and as the sunflowers swayed in the breeze I was always amazed at how the goldfinches managed to hang on and continue eating. Thanks for sharing.
We have several finches over here but have not seen that one, Excellent capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful and amazingly detailed shot of this colorful bird. My bird book says they should be there in the winter, in fact all across the south and southwest. I have lots of them here in the summer. I'll try to get some photos when they're wearing their bright colors.
