Description
Castle Combe lies in a valley in Wiltshire not far from my home, and is considered one of the loveliest villages in the country. It is one of the most visited and frequently finds favour as a backdrop for period television and cinema dramas. Dr Doolittle etc.
Its adjacent wooded hill was fortified by Britons, Saxons and Normans and like most other places in the Cotswolds, Castle Combe's prosperity was based on sheep and wool. The village was important enough at one time to be granted the privilege of holding a fair where wool and sheep were traded.
David and I met up today and we had a lovely day and had some lovely sunshine, and the river was in full flow, this shot is looking down the old weavers cottages down from the Market place..

What a wonderful old fashioned English country village scene, I love it. Of course it goes without saying that the photography is superb, and I love it that there are 2 horses with riders in the scene to give it added interest. Great capture, thank you - hugs Jane xx p.s. I would love to live there

Another place I've heard family speak of all my life... Castle Combe. I think I have some old photos taken on my grandparents last visit there in the '50s. Fabulous shot!
