Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image.
The critter I showed yesterday was a True Bug, as is this one. The one yesterday has a big beak that it uses to suck juice out of plants. This one has a big beak that it uses to suck the juices out of other bugs, lol.
I have shown one of these critters before but it has been some time so I thought it would be nice to show another one. BTW - the scientific name of this critter is "Arilus cristatus" and the common name is "Wheel Bug". Supposedly, they can deliver a very painful bite if provoked but I have had several on my fingers and never had one feel threatened enough to bite me. Thank goodness! To be on the safe side, I do not recommend handling them, lol.

I've never seen a bug like this before, and I'm kind-a glad of that!!!! cool image though!!!!
Reminds me of a single fang from the tartantula. A fantastic macro view. Good pov and astonishing detail.
Another great capture! I am amazed that you can coax such amazing macros out of such a small camera!
Fantastic creature and a fantastic shot!
super macro, i never seen this kind of, lovely depth
Fabulous creature! Time you published your book!
nice capture, looks a mean guy !
I can see where you got the title for this one Lee. You manage to take the ugliest of creatures and turn them into a thing of beauty. The 'Beak' on this one looks quite daunting, I don't think I would care to handle it. Not only do you have a very steady hand, you have nerves of steel. Excellent macro, the clarity and detail as always sharp as a pin. Bravo!!!!!
Mercy sakes alive! Full view is incredible. This fella could be in a science fiction movie. Amazing macro!
a wonderful macro shot. well done
Great title for this interesting bug. Your macro work is amazing!
That is kind of alien looking. Never seen one before. Nice macro.
i agree about the alien thing, a career in B movies awaits this bug.
great capture...
What an amazing critter! Very spectacular capture. I never knew they existed. Have you considered putting together a collage or book of your photos for the schools? These are awesome pictures. Bunny
