Description
This is 2 different views of the Ion Thruster Engine that will be replacing the engine that are currently on the USS Lewis & Clark. There is a vast difference between chemical propulsion engines and ion propulsion engines. The ion engine's thrust is similar to chemical propellant engines, except those engines may produce millions of pounds of thrust. For instance, the engines in rockets that lift the Space Shuttle combine metal-warping heat with an Earth-shaking roar to quickly lift the Space Shuttle to more than 17,000 miles per hour. An ion engine starts with about 20 thousandths of a pound of thrust. There is no roar, just an eerie blue glow. While the atoms are fired in great numbers out the thruster at more than 70,000 miles per hour this in turn will be a more efficient propulsion system. This model was created in Bryce 5 from scratch, all concepts and designs by me. The information for Ion propulsion system ascertain from Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Thanks again for viewing my work.
David.

Spectacular detail as usual. So how much time is it taking to build these?
Thanks for the comment; as for how long it's taken me to bulid these engines, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 hours all together. David ;-)
Great work again David! If the warring factions at JPL, Ames, and NASA get together for the common good, we might see missions such as these in our lifetimes,(maybe now that Dan Golden is gone!)WE know we have the technology!
