Description
Nikon 7900 pocket camera. hand held image.
I saw several of these today and could not resist getting a few shots. Although it is called a Blister Beetle, another name is Oil Beetle and even though it is described as being short-winged, in truth it does not have any wings at all, lol.
When disturbed or threatened, these beetles exude an oil from the leg joints that can cause blisters on bare skin. I must say now that I have never had an insect(that was perched on my finger) bite me, sting me, or cause pain in any manner but that does not mean I encourage others to pick up critters. Your results may not be the same, lol.
Hopefully, this critter will be interesting to others because I have several images of them I intend to post.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

Love the detail in the photo..... and you are very good at what you do....but this here bug make me want to say....ewwwww......ewwwwww.....ewwwwwwww
You have a very special way with these creatures. Its as if they sense you will cause them no harm. I love the texture pattern that has been captured by your stunning photography.
Great details for a black bug.
you be careful with all those bugs so you dont get stung or hurt Lee awesome macro here!!! fabulous shot!
Well Lee how lucky you are, this is a perfect image. The way bugs like to bite, sting and anything else they can come up with to do to me makes me stay well away from them, I've discovered the ants in my front yard are called Green Head Ants, not to be confused with Green Ants. They attack and leave a nasty sting, the pain shoots up my legs now, I'll leave it to you to take shots of the nasty insects for us all to enjoy looking at later. Lol..Kym
A perfect shot of a most interesting crittur!
oh Lee, you wouldn't believe how many takes I've had shooting this very same critter .. so afraid it would hurt, I never dreamed of picking it up. Excellent shot of this COOL BUG.
Superb MACRO ! , i have never managed to have details in any black creature ! Thanks for sharing , Ana
Great macro, full-size view is fabulous. (I would not let that guy on my finger... lol)
Awesome detail on this bug Lee, the legs end in what looks like a couple of fish hooks and vicious looking spikes half way up. Sooner you than me is all I say. Fantastic shot, superb clarity and detail. Bravo!!!!!
