Description

Nikon 7900 image. I like grasshoppers but I don't take many photos of them. I have only posted maybe 2 or 3 images of them each year. I think it is because most of them are just variations of brown and black patterns or they are green, but every now and then one stands out when I see it. This one is a perfect example of that. In the first place, he has a lot of bright yellow on him. Not so obvious from this pic is that this one is also pretty big (maybe 2 1/2 inches long). In addition to that, he was so involved in eating the Goatweed foliage, that he mostly ignored me. When I take shots of very small critters, the depth of field is so shallow, the backgrounds become very pleasant swirls of harmonious colors. When shooting a critter this large, the backgrounds can be very distracting because a lot of the foliage is distinctly visible as separate objects and gives a cluttered look to the image. The latter was the case in this situation. I decided to digitally edit out everything that distracted me and added a mellow background in its place.. I also rotated the image 90 degrees to the right to provide an easier POV for the viewer. I do not know what species this big guy is but he is a good looking specimen of grasshoppers in general. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

To quote a very famous sailor, "well blow me down!" (in case you don't recognize him, that's a quote from Popeye The Sailor Man.) This is a outrageously stellar shot. A macro that challenges all others. Wow. Absolutely amazing. Great postwork as well.

Once again you amaze me with the fantastic details captured in this image, even down to individual hairs on its front legs and forhead. It is pictures like this that makes you a favourite artist of so many people on renderosity and seeing as Mrs Lubner has made a quote here is another TV quote, this time from Star Trek's Mr Spock 'May you live long and prosper' & keep posting these magnificent pictures. Bravo!!!!!
