Description
Nikon 7900 image.
I saw this critter among the passion vine plants and my first thought was "Gulf Fritillary". However upon closer examination, I am now unsure. The long yellowish-white bar that runs the length of his body is not found on that species (at least not on any I have seen in real life of photos).
If anyone knows what this colorful caterpillar will turn into, please let me know.
BTW - the full size view gives a much better look.
Thanks to those who take the time to comment.

I don't know. But it is a great Macro!
Holy cow! What a fantastic macro.
WOW, great shot. Love the 'thorns' on this guy!
Sorry don't know the species but that thing is soooo ugly, it's beautiful. Absolutely fantastic macro, lots of fine detail, I see one of its 'thorns' is broken, and looking at the symmetry it could be missing a couple of legs.
Sweet capture and love the colors!!
Great capture...
Excellent!
Holy cow is right, fantastic shot!!!
Holy Macro Lee! Fantastic shot! I'll have to do a little digging and searching to see what I can come up with; will let you know if I find any answers. :) Have a great weekend.....
Awesome macro!! Excellent capture.
This is a superb macro capture of this slimy looking pillar - I have no idea what it is, but then I have no idea what any caterpillar is other than that... a caterpillar!! LOL! Wonderful colours and composition. xx
this looks hard to touch! excellent quality and a very unusual found! never seen one like this
This has very interesting colors and yoru macro really shows so much detail! I hope you find out what it is but even without a name I can call this shot stellar.
Thorny little creature! Excellent capture and details. Excellent work. I agree with MrsLubner, this is stellar. Bunny
Good capture...looks like the spiny oakworm caterpillar but I am not an expert. Any oak trees nearby? LOL!
What a stunning capture, and a very cool looking caterpillar. I totaly love his spikes and I would assume anything that preys on him respects those spikes.
such a gorgeous macro.......love the details ....superB I search for you maybe you can check here...... http://www.whatsthiscaterpillar.co.uk/plates.htm
I am stunned! The details on this without zoom rocked me backward! I'd love to know what sort of beauty this will turn into.
impressive full length focus on this exceptional macro.they can crawl pretty fast when they want to
Great Capture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roby ;O) ;O) ;O)
Great shot! ;)
Excellent macro! very detailed! The ones we have here that feed on passion flower are orange with black spikes and I "think" they turn into the polka dot wasp moth. You may want to check moth species.
