Description
Sorry for the crop to make it less commercial my last one was taken a few times on other websites without my permission, and hence the unseemly signature on the wing.. This one was seen with a rubber Snake which it was determined to kick to death and classical behaviour that they will undertake with little to no training.
Secretary Birds have two distinct feeding strategies that are both executed on land. They can either catch prey by chasing it and striking with the bill, or stomping on prey until it is rendered stunned or unconscious enough to swallow. Studies of this latter strategy have helped construct the possible feeding mechanisms employed by dinosaur-like 'terror birds' that once walked the earth five million years ago.

A marvellous shot and a wonderful view in the nature !!!
A super capture of this beautiful bird - I have never even heard of a Secretary Bird let alone seen one, so this is such a pleasure for me. It's a shame people resort to stealing, but an inevitability with captures as good as this I suppose! Great shot with amazing details Danny. xx
A beautiful shot - pity that some think they can use it without permision .
this one had me in awe! I thought the snake was real ... till I read :) Awesome though, how it shows what this bird WOULD do if it was real. Too cool...gorgeous bird, too, btw -- never seen one like this before. great shot. :)
wow awesome capture..
Impressive capture! Nothing more to say... ;)
Oh my....the secretary bird from our old Christmas tradition of looking att a potpourrie of Donald Duck film pieces. It began when TV was young here in Sweden, and we grownup sit every Christmas Eve at three o'clock looking at those old filmclips, while the younger generation think we are totally crazy. They can look as much as they want on Disney, but for us "oldie" it is a dear tradition that starts Christmas for us. Then we light the Christmas candles, and after that it is time for dinner, and later the tomte comes with gifts for the children. It starts with Donald Duck and the secretary bird wo totally ruins his try to photograph the djungle birds. Now I know how it looks in reality. Thanks Danny!
Fantastic image!!!!
Superb!!! *******
A very beautiful and determined bird, wonderful capture!!!!
Fantastic capture :) Such a shame people take work without asking... Then we have to marr up our own work to protect it :(
Excellent photography!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROBY
I'm so sorry that your work has been stolen!!!! I can see why though it's fabulous, and this is proof!!!!!! These birds are one of my favorites, so cool and unusual !!!!!! rubber snakes?? do they use them often?? for training?? interesting...
A gorgeous capture with this secretary bird. You just got the right time! Fantastic!!!
Thought the snake was real...an amzing creature for sure and a fine shot albeit your need to crop.
It has no idea what it meant when IBM abolished all secretaries. Behavioral analysis insisted that office workers be classified by only the office machines they were fluent with. Mainframe "big iron" was not included.
