Description
Well, we didn't make it all the way up Cooper Spur yesterday. Our goal was 8500 feet (2600 m) but we only made it to about 6500 (2000 m). What stopped us was the wind. As soon as we got above treeline, we had to deal with a wind that I estimate at around 40 mph (65 kph). When it wasn't blowing tiny raindrops at us, it was pelting us with that nasty sharp volcanic dust. Bad for the eyes, bad for the lungs, and very bad for the camera.
So we decided that discretion was the better part of valor on this day, and turned around. Depending on weather, we may try again next Saturday. I have a few shots to give you an idea of what it was like up there. As you can see, we were headed into the clouds, so I'm not sure we'd have had any decent views anyway.

An impressive mountain view decorated with a nice story, hope next week you will be more succesful, mountains are alway difficult to predict!!!! Have a very nice evening Henk
This is a magnificent, almost surreal view. You were probably right to turn around under those conditions, but I'm glad you were able to get this shot back to us. Fantastic!
Very bleak and dismal, but a great shot. Sorry your outing did not go very well.
Great Shot...
Beautiful...
Stunning capture of this impressive landscape. Fantastic view and atmosphere. An excellent shot!!
A great shot though that allows me to see a close up of the mountain and the terrain that I'll never see in person. I thought of you yesterday and wondered if you were on the mountain in the rain. I was home reading the last installment of Harry Potter.
I know from experience in Tenerife (a volcanic island in the Canaries), just how much volcanic dust can hurt when the wind whips it up around your legs, so I can imagine how it must have hurt your face with winds that strong!! This is an excellent capture of such a bleak view and you were definately right to turn around. Good luck for next week though. Hugs. xx
Wow! How different from your lush greenery. This is what I'd call a "challenging terrain". Great shot thought.
I'm glad you turned around! Sandblasting your camera lens, not to mention your body, is just a really bad idea. I'm sure the manufacturer doesn't recommend it. Climbing 1000 feet is better training than taking a nap and playing on the computer, which is what I did yesterday!
A fabulous capture and congrats for just being up there at this hight. Glad you did turn back as there's always another day. Beautiful work my friend. Aloha
Wow, it looks like a veritable desert up there! Your mountains seem to go from lush to desert at the tree line, instead of having grasses and scrub for a while. Walking into a cloud in unfamiliar territory is not a good idea, glad you turned back... So what DID you do instead? :D
UNA VERDADERA HERMOSURA....
Awesome capture mate! Its frightening how the weather can turn on us. Well done...
Looks like a challenging terrain. Great shot.
Spectacular view... and pity the bad conditions. The place deseves a second chance.
Save the camera at all cost! fabulous shot..what a place!
You have to listen to your instincts and the pelting nasty volcanic dust, and run for your life!!!! LOL!!!!! So sorry, you made it that far and had to turn back, I guess there's no camping and seeing what the next day holds????? This shot really shows the desolate terrain!!!! excellent!!!
