Description

The Rollers are an Old World family of near passerine birds. This is One of the eleven species. And in my view perhaps the most lovely. They resemble crows in size and build, but are more closely related to the kingfishers and bee-eaters. They share the colourful appearance of those groups, blues and browns predominating. The two inner front toes are connected, but not the outer one. These are insect eaters, usually catching their prey in the air. They often perch prominently whilst hunting, like giant shrikes. And are known to sit in wait to catch escaping prey from bush fires. The group gets its name from the aerial acrobatics some of these birds perform. Rolling in flight, and mating on the wing!! These are birds of warm climates. From much of African continent. They nest in an unlined tree-hole, and lay 2-4 eggs. Thanks for taking time to view and any comments you care to make..

Absolutely stunning!! I've never seen anything like this before, not in any book or documentary. Of course, you've captured the details perfectly, the colours and lighting superb and the DOF is perfect to allow full view of this pretty bird. Informative narrative which in itself deserves 5*. xx
