Description
The Tawny Eagle (Aquila rapax) is a large bird of prey. It is about 62-72 cm in length and has a wingspan of 165-185cm. Like all eagles, it belongs to the family Accipitridae. It was once considered to be closely related to the migratory Steppe Eagle, Aquila nipalensis, but while a close relative DNA testing shows them to be seperate species..
Native from South Africa to India and getting endangered in parts of Africa by over 60% from 1980 figures... There are quite a few colour morphs from almost white to dark brown, and some consider it to be scruffy!! Maybe I am biased but this more golden type to my eye is majestic.

Absolutely stunning capture!!
Well, stunning was the first word that sprang to mind, but as everyone else seems to have the same response...... how about, superb, fantastic, brilliant to name a few other adjectives to describe this awesome capture. This is a brilliant capture with the fine textures of the feathers and the top focus on the eye and beak area. Great DOF. Excellent shot Dan. xx
Oh la la.... such beak.... gorgeous pict Dan!
Reminds me of my boss - only kidding :D Nice image Danny - super moment and usual high standard of capture.
Wow he looks pissed! Great shot!! Such great detail and color.
Another impressive eagle portrait ! Excellent photo, Danny... And thanks for the always interesting explanation !
very clear eye, love the feathers around the beak....well done
Oh wow..wow...and wow.. You can even see his "chin hairs." This is magnificent.

Splendid photo my friend....!!!!
Perfect capture as always Fantastic shot Hugs Susan~
Well caught. I love how you caught him in mid speak as it were.
So much attitude! Marvelous. I saw a penguin up close today - as in only 1 1/2 feet from it and no glass between us. Wouldn't you know I didn't have my camera. LOL Story of my life I guess - always a missed opportunity, but then, more opportunities are on the way.
Love your work! Fantastic as always!
Really a "serious" pose, very impressive!!
as always an interesting read and a stunning accompanying shot :) Although that out of place feather does seem to corroborate the "scruffy" label ;)
This is stock quality! Webshots, Dreamstime, or Bigstock photo would love it!
I absolutely loooove that peircing golden eye! it's clarity is supurb and adds that 'Wow" factor that people talk about. That bit of 'scruff' is just so cute, sort of balances the fierceness of the pose. Great stuff. jenny
excellent !
I love the intensity of this capture. You can almost hear his cry. Excellent done, Danny. -M :^)

Most amazing and marvelling capture!!! The cry of an eagle!!! Most excellent! HAt off!
Well - maybe they mean his attitude, when talking of scruffy... :) Great shot - focus on the eye couldn't be any better!
