A pillar in St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, struck by something, probably a shell fragment during WWII. Thanks for looking.

A wonderful historical capture with this beautiful sepia like color and light setting! Lovely taken! Bravo!!!
A lot less damaged than the Parthenonon by modern explosives. The marble and craftsmanship hold this as easily as they were quarried and tooled.
St. Petersburg...how cool! Yes, there must be lots of these that managed to survive scattered all over Europe. Nice closeup!
I agree Gor111! Excellent captures!!!
Macro very quite carried out, alas the subject is sad!
Well spotted - a crack in symmetry! Bravo!
So much beautiful art damaged, lost and stolen during the wars. So sad. Thank you for sharing!
A fantastic composition and most unique cathedral capture!
Really evocative image, could almost be a wounded limb.
Oh yes, so impressiv capture !!! :)
very good macro.
perfection marred by war .. awesome photo. A commentary on war, actually.
Excellent shot. Beautiful light and colors!
WOW! I 1st thought it was a wounded Poser arm! ;)
very nice capture!!
look like a bullit. At the state caPITAL HERE IN lOUISIANA THERE IS BULLIT HOLES IN THE WALLS WHEN gOV. lONG WAS KILLED. It looks like this so I think you right
Excellent capture Aaron, probably left like this as a reminder to people of the destruction and ugliness of war. So many people, beautiful buildings and works of art were destroyed, a real shame. Well done!
I imagine with the direction of the spalling marble it was that. I like the appearance of this because of the lighting.
I thought it was an arm at first. Beautiful capture and historical reminder.
Interesting work!
thanks for sharing Aaron, yes its probably a shell fragment,so sad, agree with Pete, a lot were destroyed during the wars,a real shame, excellent shot********** Hugz and enjoy your Sunday************ :)
