Description
Over the centuries, the wolf has come to mean different things to different cultures. Revered as a deity, or reviled as a devil, the wolf has often paid with its life for crimes it did not commit.
The Black wolf In contrast was to the indigenous people of North America both admired and emulated the wolf. The Native Americans respected the wolf's hunting abilities and honored him because he provided food for the community at large-the fox, the coyote, and the raven.
To some the wolf was seen as a wise, powerful, an instinctive hunter, a teacher in fact, of tactics humans could emulate against buffalo or caribou.
And the ultimate paradox of the demise of the Bison, and these days of the replacement cattle, that wolves may now be forced to compete with humanity..

A remarkable animal. Excellent photo.
Nice shot Danny.... I'm amazed by the size of the paws. John
Wowww Dark colour... Very impressive. Maybe the sun light is very strong, but is a lovely pic. Hugs
Beautiful capture! I've never seen an all black wolf before. It intrigues me how their eyes are smaller and closer set than a dog's eyes... very preditory look to him. Thank you for sharing the interesting text about the Wolf as well as your excellent photo! Looks even more terrific zoomed in to the larger size.. :-)
Fantastic capture but a sad message attached to it. I hope your efforts to preserve, stir the hearts of all the right people - us!
Such a beautiful animal, and so misunderstood by stupid humans.
It's a shame that men and wolves cannot live together. Wolves are social and vcaring aninmals and they certainly do not deserve the name they have. Beautiful capture BTW.
I thought it is nice doggy but obviously it's his elder brother. Beautiful shot!
What a beauty!! You can see all the "power" of nature in this animal! Excellent work, gorgeous, I LOVE IT, REALLY!!!
Super great shot! Awesome looking wolf!
An amazing and powerful animal! Wolves used to bring fear to man centuries gone by. Now the tables have turned. Who can save the wolves for man can not seemingly save himself either. Well captured - thanks for sharing.
Another amazing update on our planet in crisis!!!!!! Excellent work Danny!!! Powerful photo!!!!!
WONDERFUL.....such a proud look...well captured
Thanks for showing this majestic creature! I have never seen a black wolf before, and I find him sooo beautiful, great shot!
Bravo - good shot. Looks quite different from the wolves I know...
Is this a wolf or its it a wolf-hound? I dont know maybe my image of a wolf is more of the 'stupid humans' (phrankpower). Great shot.
A Gods gift beautiful animal. Excellent series of this Fragile Earth. Aloha
Excellent dog!!!!!!!!!! Roby ;O)
Wonderful series, when will we as ppl ever learn from our previous & still present mistakes & ignorance, we as humans only have to look deeper & see what species are now trully extinct & then use this as a porthole to see where we are trully going top end up Stuart
Great short and good story about it,thanks erland
An old and tired wolf.... and a touching portrait. He's really got something very sad in his look... I love them, it's really a beautiful animal. And the humans have report on him so many terrible things. I'll never understand why. They have disapeared in our forest, and now, they try to introduce them again, and every body became crazy. Saying they killed some sheeps.... of course they do, it's the natural order of the Nature ! We have destroyed the environnement, of course they came nearer from the villages, as the bears ! Arhhhhhhhhh stupid humans ;o((((((((
such a neat shot ..
Each new upload makes me reflect on "What have I done to help mother earth today?" This old wolf makes me sad to see it penned up like this, but as you have mentioned it probably is helping rather than hindering it's exsistance. Wolves have always gotten a bad rap in the US...and with it's dwindling habitat it's a wonder we still have them around. Always a pleasure to view your work and read your words of wisdom. Aloha~
