Description
A slightly different pose from #1.
The only postwork on these images was a little cloning to bring the lights in front of of her garb.
BASIC SETUP, for those wanting to try this at home--
8' slats form the support (1x2 or 1x3 are fine. You can shape them into a cube or triangle.
Backdrop is black felt, which is really cheap and won't reflect any light but it will attract debris. Buy 2 or 3 3-yard lengths. This covers a range of poses from standing with arms raised to lying prone. The felt is stapled or clipped to the framework.
Use small Xmas lights for the lighting. One or two net-style lights cover the background nicely .
To support the foreground lights, place an 8' slat on the upper slats 2'-4' in front of the backdrop. This will give the model ample room to pose within this shell of light.
Take 2-4 strings of lights and loop them over the slat, letting them hang to the floor. This enables the model to play with them or the photographer to move them in or out of camera view as needed.
Make sure you use a solid tripod. This rig puts out a lot of light but not enough for hand-held photography. (And if you're like me, you can also curse digital camera designers for omitting anything resembling a shutter release cable!)
Get your model to stand still. Exposure time is long enough that blurring will result if the model is in motion (or as Joleen puts is "KITTEN TIME!")

Nice. This does appear to be something like stars she is wrapped in.
Pretty Impressive I must say!
That took a lot of brain work to set that shot. (has the pain gone away yet) lol. Like I said before,, I look at all I can to get ideas and this one is nice. Take care,, Chuck
Excellent work very nice!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear David and Joleen, I can well agree that the digital camera people seem to leave out a lot of features. The lack of an external release is just one of them. They also need a REAL lens cap so you can take dark frames which is critical for CCD images, (you subtract the dark frame from the picture to get rid of thermal noise in the chip.) Your "backdrop" sounds really cool. The felt is a bit of a problem becasue as you say, it picks up everything. You might look at some of the construction type "fabrics" at Home Depot or Lowes for something else. Some of them are very black. You may have to hunt for one that's not shiny, but some of the sheething type coverings might work. I'll take a look myself the next trip over there and see what I can find. Really neat concept and you two have obviously had a lot of fun with it. This pictures is just as stunning as the last!!!!! Love ya!!! Meredith
