Description

This falcon taken at our National Bird of Prey centre at Newant is I am fairly sure a Lanner Falcon, but has a more blue look than is usual for the species so I may be wrong, according to my notes I keep it can be more this colour in African species than the ones here in Northern Europe... Very popular amongst falconers, and thus rare in the wild, due to its superb flying skills, and good nature, often the first choice to start with.. The Perigrine falcon is very similar but not so big..

Perfect pose Danny! I know you're not a fan of it, but I can't help feeling this could use a little sharpening, to really make it 'zing'?

There he goes again. Classic portrait - wonderfully balanced. I'm just not sure about the choice of focus. Me - I'm looking at the eyes first. But either way goes and goes well.

"Very popular amongst falconers, and thus rare in the wild, " I'm not sure what to say about that,or why that is...All I can say is it's always so amazing to me...and so 'foreign'...that people even 'keep' and work with birds of prey. It's just not 'done' in my small, sigh, suburban universe, but I think there's something strangely exotic and beautiful about it...I wanted to see an exhibition of falconry when I went to Scotland.Unfortunately,it never happened...Anyway,regardless of your pov about keeping wild animals in 'shackles',sigh,it's always a beautiful thing,to me, to see man and animal working together...Okay.I'll hush now,and say, this is lovely, once again,Danny...-M :^)

With those markings at eyes and the shape of head I would say yes to a Lanner. Nice perch and timed shot.
