Description

"Technology is so much fun but we can drown in our technology. The fog of information can drive out knowledge." ~ Daniel Boorstin "We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." ~ Carl Sagan

Here is an image I entered in the August Genre Challenge - Science & Technology. It is one scene, but a combination of two photos. The first is focused on the foreground and the other on the background. I blended them together in Photoshop and a slight foggy haze was added. I enhanced that haze a bit more for the gallery image and converted it into an animated GIF (so view it full size). The slightly pixelated texture the GIF format gives it builds on the theme of technology and the fact that this is a digital image. I know some people are not overly fond of animated GIFs in the photo gallery, but I think if they are done in a subtle way, they can give an image some added interest. Circuitboard City is like any other big city, with the run down slums on the outskirts and the more modern grandeur towards the center. Come visit Circuitboard City, it is only a few bytes away. My thanks to those of you who congratulated me on my recent appointment as a Photography Coordinator. I will help you out to the best of my abilities so don't ever hesitate to drop me a line with your questions or concerns. Don't give me too hard a time though, it isn't a paid position after all ... hahahah. 8'] ----- Thank you for your ominious comments on my last upload, Lowering Skies. Again, please be sure to view the image Full Size - the compression down to 700 pixels wide really makes this image look terrible.

This is fabulous Kort!! I have often thought of the analogy of cities when looking at circuit boards. Your composition is wonderful, and you do convey the "Fog" quite well! Excellent quotes! As to the animation, I am also aware that there are "Purists" out there that see animation in the photography gallery as a sacrilege. But if they want to be uptight, then they should not be allowed to crop, or lighten, darken, adjust saturation or any other manipulation that might otherwise enhance their photos. This could be solved simply by adding two new genres: Photography/Straight from Camera and Photography/Animations. I am personally not that uptight, I see every media here as a means of expression and not one that is limited by this or that persons personal bias/opinion. But rather a general category in which an artist is FREE to explore the outer boundaries of said genre. So as to the animation portion of your image, fantastic!! I see this as a further extension of your already formidable skills! Bravo.

Great shot, is that mainboard at the back an old 8088 board, I'm sure they used the 8251 uart noted on the cct? Enough of my tech head stuff, the combination of images and the presentation of the final piece are excellent. (congratulations also the coordinatorr thing, I don't spend much time in the photo forum - it's not my main medium - but I can recognise a good photo!)

The touch of animation used in your thumbnail is quite effective. It's really a neat shot. In reference to Digimons comment, comparing lightening, darkening or cropping to animation is just wrong. It is a completely different approach to photography, and as so deserves its' own category here at Renderosity.

I see some of the components populating this circuitboard are tantalum capacitors. One little-known fact about tantalum caps is that reversing their polarity (not recommended), then energizing the circuit can cause them to make a loud pop followed immediately by a small mushroom cloud. Do not ask me how I know this! Excellent composition, cleverly animated! Hey, if some of these animations didn't turn up in other areas from time to time, the Renderosity world would be a poorer place!

A great blend of the two photos there, TwoPynts! A bonny city, that is! I like the dip switches in the background. But do you really think you needed that foggy haze down the middle? Maybe you could have lightened it up or spread it out vertically a bit.

Kort you ole dog you!! Man this one's off the Hizzle...I like the way your brain works and this is a great example. You've taken something we've all seen before and brought it to life. As for the animation and the fog, well that really brings it home for me..I also like how you combined the photos for a very kewl effect... Very clever shot and idea...Now I must steal this one to my Favs...Thanks for your quotes to go with this image, as usual you make me ponder..Aloha Bra~
