Description
Matreshki, Matrioshi, Matryoshki... Only way to spell it correctly is with Cyrillic letters!
Babuci summarized these dolls nicely in his comment yesterday. I will add only that I recall hearing/reading that these originaited in the Russian Far East and may be based on Chinese or Japanese items similar to them. How true that is, I don't know, but the lacquerwork on some of them suggests an oriental flavor.
These are more simple. Wood-burning and applique of gold/silver or gold / silver paintwork. This set has been opened to show three of the scenes. Not sure what specific story this is, but I think these kids are going to elope. ;-)
Very nice burn work here. I'd have set the lot on fire by accident... I know my limitations... usually. ;-)
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
A few more of these, then we move on to something very different.

Sweet faces on these little dolls. The detail is so clear and something that takes 'real' talent. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!!!!
