Description
What did you expect? This is a 'family' site... and what a family it is! ;-)
Some more Russian Matreshki and a 'bell doll' labeled Kandalaksha. Not sure what else to call it. The little doll contains a bell or chime that tinkles very softly. Kandalaksha is a city in the far north of Russia on the Kola Peninsula. If anyone can add more details on the doll... I'm listening.
In this case, the Matreski are 'opened' a bit. You can see one of the nested dolls. The detail was unusual: decoration of gold paint and what appeared to be areas of wood burning. Not very ostentatious. Mrs. W saw it, and the bell, and had to have both. Rufus (a ferret) loves the sound of the bell. He will come running from rooms away if he hears it tinkle.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

wow love these types of dolls bet they from old designs handed down over the years
They called: MATRYOSKHA DOLL. or Nesting doll (in western countries). They claim, it has a Latin root "matter" (means mother). So it was associated with a Mother figure! Symbolizing a healthy big family. Some has only 3-8 dolls nested in. 48 is a biggest number of doll. A painting, more likely decorating is different, depending on which part of Russia came from. Yours is a traditional painting, but nowsday you can find even polar bear nesting "dolls".
Love the little ladies. Good shot and thanks for showing them to us.
He he, the bell is a nice add on! Original work!
