I also love g8 for the ease of use for movement/expression/clothing fits, etc... I tend to avoid G9 because there's almost too much finite detail that you have to purchase to make it look realistic. I'm not in to AI at all and lots more g9 seems to be AI connected. G8 and even g3 and V4/M4 will still be my first picks.
Yeah... I second that... I was even going to create a thread, but, seeing you've mad one, I'd rather boost yours -- Genesis 9 is an awful, defective product: faces are cute, but the body is not even ugly -- it's inhuman (one can fix it, but it takes a lot of time -- more than with G8 --, and it's not an aesthetical problem, it's the mesh, the rigging, everything -- just look at the Genesis 9 armpit! It has the same problems as Genesis 1 and 2!). I was hoping that, with many PAs coming back here from Daz Store, they would go back to creating exclusively for G8 or, at least, hybrid products, but we still see a lot of G9 stuff here (or, worse, hybrids where the G8 is, in fact, just an auto-fitted product, which you can see due to the deformations in some body areas, especially, the pelvic area when it comes to skirts, dresses, or everything that's not tightly fitted). Long live Genesis 8!
I'm another who think DAZ peaked with G8. I thought G8.1 was going off in the wrong direction as it seemed like there was noenthing done that required the change in skin textures and it often takes more work to make PBR skins look less artificial, not to mention that a lot of G8 products and add-ons just stopped working on G8 or required "upgrades".. But then G9 came alone and went back to the unisex figure that had proved so unsucessful with genesis one, had bends that often looked like silly putty, lost so many of the useful bones, and required geografts to get decent detail on things like nipples and belly buttons. I do buy G9 products when they're cheap, but primarily to repurpose their assets for the older generations, while G3 and G8 remain my main figures, something that will probably continue for some time to come unless G10 turns out to be a voice controlled figure that takes directions like a live model.
To be honest, I think the "greatest leap forward" was Genesis 3. There were later improvements (some of which are not even figure-related, so they don't count), of course, but this was the really revolutionary figure -- no wonder we can easily convert between G3 <-> G8.x. Most of the time (like, 99.9%, if it's a human figure), I only have to fix the eyes. However, I think there are little improvements in the G8F face (on the other hand, I hate those "hanging" eyelashes -- just because I hate wearable body parts that could be part of the mesh -- and G9 has four of them, or five if we count the brows). Of course, there is no turning back, and I'm not hoping and even less asking for new Genesis 3 products (I use G8 most of the time). Just a little historical note about the importance of Genesis 3 and the fact that Genesis 8 was the apex mostly because it was reaping Genesis 3's fruits.
About the "PBR" skin, I tried it, and it needs a lot of tweaks to look good -- and looking good basically means trying to mimic what we already achieve with Iray Uber, which, b.t.w., is also PBR (because Iray is PBR), and the "PBR" in the new skin is just a marketing stunt.
So, that's the biggest issue with Genesis 9: it has all the defects of previous generations but none (or almost none) of the qualities: extra hanging body parts, no Iray Uber skin (this one, though, is the easiest to fix), awful mesh issues (like the G1/2 armpits), awful androgyny (like G1), plus some things that are its own -- awful body sillhoutte, awful proportions that are hard to fix, awful rigging (no wonder there are many "bend fix" products for G9), poke-thrus in outfits that are not outfitted but made exclusively for G9, and the list goes on.
Do I buy G9 products? Yes, but less often: hair, rarely, because it doesn't fit in previous generations; clothes when it's unique and I sense they would fit; characters, either to convert (head only, because the body is useless) or toons (which is curious, since G9 was supposed to be the "realistic" figure). (Other things, like props and environments, are not figure-related, so, of course, I buy them.)
Yes, I liked G3 a lot. I thought it was a big improvement on G2, which in turn was a great improvement in the initial androgenous Genesis unimesh, which they disastrously, IMO, returned to with G9.
I think it has a better neck topology than V8 & also has an ankle bone that G8 was denied for some reason.
It took me a little while to take to G8, but once I was familiar with it, I grew to like it a lot & know how to get around its foibles & shortcomings.
I am not averse to seeing a Genesis 10, as long as it returns to a male & female base mesh, with the appropriate mesh densities in those important different areas.

There has been a recent worrying trend, especially on this store, in releasing G9 exclusive character products without any G8 equivalent, as there often used to be. Recent stats that I have read online seem to confirm that nearly two thirds of the user base are still using G8, that is a significant proportion late into the life cycle of the current generation. I am at the point now, with G9 being a mature product, that I know I never am going to adopt the bloated G9 base. That said, there are some attractive characters being released for it.
This is a polite, sincere request for continued support of the G8 base until we have a viable, non-androgenous, successor to G8; G10M G10F?
Thanks for your time.
Klutz :)
