Subject: Applying poses in C6 pro

DocMatter ( ) posted Sat, 27 September 2008 at 10:31 AM ยท edited Wed, 08 July 2026 at 10:54 AM

I'm having a little problem when applying poses to V4 in C6 pro.  First off, I've reset most of the joints in V4 to 'ball joint' to avoid that unsightly weird twist and bulge she gets when her joints are set to 'full'.
But I'm also having the problem that when I apply a pose (from my Poser runtime) to V4 who has already been posed previously, she gets this weird contortion.  It looks like the pose is just adding the new joint settings to the existing ones instead of replacing them.  I've tried zeroing her out and then applying the pose, but I get the same results.
Any suggestions?

Are you using Import to get her in, or doing it through the browser content tab?

I have not had this happen with V4, but have seen it with the mil dragon. With the dragon, it happens with a few particular pose sets, not all sets. And it's reproducible. I suspected that the poses include some lock-down on the absolute location of a body part, while the other parts are relative. I was able to adjust the offending parts and have not investigated further. C6 constraints are still unfamiliar territory to me.
I also found that zeroing the pose and reapplying it simply got me the same (wrong) result! That is most strange.

Sparrow--  I use the browser content tab to get practically all my objects into the scene.

Hmmm.  I have had that issue, but zeroing always fixed it for me.  Could you tell me what specific opses you are using when this happens, so I can try and duplicate it?  Also are you using V4.0, V4.1 or V4.2?  I have heard some people had had some issues with using older V4.0 poses with V4.2.

I'm using V4.2 and it happens with just about any pose.  I've also just noticed that it happens with other figures too..... V3, M3 and James.
Again, I've been setting most of their joints to 'ball joint' as opposed to 'full' so I can get the full range of motion from the poses.  I wonder if this is the root of the problem.

It might be that changing the joint type is causing Carrara to have trouble figuring out the limits in the pose and it's getting confused because the limits are different from what it expects from the character and the pose.

I was applying some pose sets to V4.2 this morning and got to look more closely at what was going on.
I found two things: A) on the individual body parts, some poses apply modifiers (modifier tab). I had to delete several to apply a new pose.
B) on the ball joint constraint, the 3 golden rings should be zero. The pose set puts a value on this and the new pose won't apply right until they are set to zero again.

I am wondering if converting poses to "universal" in P7 would avoid these problems.
