Subject: Show Backdrop - Sloooowwwwwwwly

pscammp ( ) posted Tue, 06 March 2007 at 1:02 PM · edited Sat, 16 May 2026 at 3:50 AM

Hi All,
Hoping to get a little help here if anyone can.......I am running Carrara 5.1 Pro and i am importing a syntheyes file which runs great....BUT....the syntheyes file also imports a backdrop with it which is a 720 x 480 sequenced JPG. If i click play in the prospective window then it all looks fine at 24 FPS & seems to run in real time. Using the openGL option for the prospective window rendering and putting all the settings possible to off or minimum quality etc but enabling the ' Show Backdrop ' see's my play run speed slow to what looks like about  1 FPS. There are no objects in the window except the default light and about 15 target helpers representing the tracker positions from syntheyes file import. Anyone know why when playing in the prospective window is sooooo slowwww. I am using intel duel core E6600, 2 GB DDR 2 ram, Geforce 8800 GTX, SATA II 250 GB drive. Plenty of power there i think so why the major slowdown with a backdrop showing in the prospective window, its really annoying when previewing animation ETC

Any help / advice would be greatfully received

Many Regards to all

Paul

English usage-for one who only speaks that language-is great fun. "prospective" window is a brand new WOW? for me.

Very few may be using syntheyes stuff so it may help if you downloaded the file in question and/or show Carrara screen shots.

Prospective Window!---at 75 I learn every day.(Thats if I think I know what you mean?)

Hello Paul, I use Syntheyes regularly with Carrara. There are a couple or reasons that this is happening. Carrara is not a video playback device so it's not optimized for real-time video playback within the Assembly Room. (even playing an animation in the Assembly Room without a movie backdrop is in slow-motion because of all the 3D resources that Carrara has to process) The best work-around is to use the Quad view in Carrara to minimize the screen redraw area of your movie backdrop. Additionally, you can click zoom out to make it smaller still. Everything does render just as it should with great results but getting streaming video probably isn't going to happen anytime soon. :-/ Mark

Hi All,
Very Sorry for the rather late reply, have been silly busy recently.

BWTR.....Nice to know i can be of some amusement at times, careful, might beltch some shakespear in a min....LOL....I have a small idea that i might have teleported back to the Raydream Days if my grey matter serves me well, one appologises most gracefully and Assembly room is the expression i was looking for.... :-D

Mark.....I see your point, have tried it and it's a little better but still a bit annoying, ow for the want of a perfect world  L  Nice to know that someone else is having a dabble with the syntheyes & Carrara combination, it certainly does a good job, shame that carrara doesnt import the ' Light ' data though but you never know for the future !!!!  Use causion Obi Wan Mark, you might find me picking your brain some times & showing you me test renders L Feel free to bash me on the head with your lite saber.

Many thanks for the replies guys & sorry again for taking so long to reply

Regards
Paul

Paul

Yes, Prospective Window/Room  sounds very Shakesperian. Actually it's a good word for it.

But then the logical next step is to have an Introspective Room/Window where you can more deeply manage the metaphysical aspects of your 3D project. :-D

Is there where you apply the Hypno-beams?
