Hi All,

I've just recently joined up and started messing with DAZ|Studio and are considering buying C5P.I've a got some questions I'd like to ask if I may:

1.Are the recommended computer specs realistic?I've got a laptop with 1.74GHz Pentium M processor,1GB RAM,128Mb video RAM on an ATI Radeon X300 and plenty of space on the 80Gb HDD.Or will this PC struggle to do anything useful?

2.Are the figures/content from DAZ||Studio compatible for importing into C5P?

3.How steep is the learning curve given that I'm a beginner in Photoshop CS2 and Painter IX,but in my defence do pick up operating software lioke this pretty quickly!!

1.Presume you mean the specs for Carrara.  Obviously Carrara will work on the minimum specs but, like everything-- better is better!

1. Basically only as .obj files at this stage. We all expect native file compatabilities between Daz Studio and Carrara very soon.
   3.Carrara5Pro is a "real" comprehensive ,3d programme.  It is quite a step up from DAZ Studio, but if you have no problems with Studio you will be fine with Carrara. It's one of the easiest to learn.

Carrara5Pro, together with the outstandingly cheap plugins available,  gives you a programme which has a usefulness close to programmes costing thousands of dollars.

You wont regret purchase.

Thanks for that bwtr.I'll think it over a  bit longer and get more of a feel for D|S but this 3d artistry is incredibly absorbing and having been an amateur photographer for years and spent far too long chasing 'spectacular' landscapes it is a revelation to design your own while leaving the great outdoors to be enjoyed properly,and even to inspire oneself to create.

Mick. I am 75 and a retired photojournalist. And I am also a painter. I had to give both away--arthritis--anyone want a wet darkroom any more?

About 4 years ago my eldest son gave me the nod on switching on his computer--which had Photoshop!  (What a revalation to this old bloke!)Then someone gave me a copy of Bryce, then Carrara 2 was free with a magazine!

Obviously 3D is HUGE fun--and Carrara must be easy to learn if a complete computer novice can grasp it.

I use Carrara 5 on a Pentium II 500mhz and a 64mb Radeon 9200SE and I can still do stuff in it.

C5 should run fine on that system.  I tend to do a lot of work with both C5 Pro and poser 6 so my systrem is a bit heftier to import and handle multiple poser characters.  You might benefit from some more RAM though.

C5 has a very forgiving learning curve and is easy to use straight out of the box.

I know what you mean about arthritis.  I had to give up music and a few other hobbies because of it.

I have CS2 but I usually use Paint Shop Pro from Corel more.  All of the features and w lot less expensive.

Thanks for the replies guys.I think I'm gonna buy it as the deals with DAZ till 2nd Feb are too good to pass up-C5Pro for $198 or about £105 in the UK and the lesser systems obviously less.
