Subject: To use Transposer2 or Native import.?

Nightwind ( ) posted Mon, 12 June 2006 at 4:29 PM · edited Sat, 04 July 2026 at 11:34 AM

I'm still adjusting to Carrara, and until now haven't been delving into how things work.

What I've found is that Transposer2 doesn't do quite what I thought it would. First off, I'm finding conforming items don't stay conformed and all imported items come in as primitives. I can adjust their world position, but not pose. All maps show as parametric because the objects are now seen as primitives. So if I'm understanding this, Transposer2 is only useful if you've already set your scene and simply want to use Carrara to render it as is. (I've been trying to use Carrara for sky and terrain, and bring in people/animals from .pz3.)

I've also tried using the native importer, which gives me better results as far as adjusting textures, setting poses,...etc. Actually the only problem I've encountered here is with morphs. When I use a .pz2, the morphs show up in the morph list, but all the settings have to be input manually, which can get a bit tedious. Also once the morphs are set, and I use a .pz2 to change a pose, all morph numbers are back at zero.

Is there a way to work around this? Or is there something I should be doing that I'm failing to do? Any help/advice is sincerely appreciated.:)

replace parametric shader with multichannel :)

i also redo shaders and lighting in carrara from scratch, pose info is only thing i keep

Thanks.:)

I always delete poser lights that get brought in.  Sometimes the textures hold up, since I mostly use maps. I just have to be very careful which ones I change, else I loose all material zone info when I go from parametric to mulitchannel.

I guess basically it's a trade off either way you go. I was just hoping there was a way to keep the morph values when using native import.  Just because you can't have everything doesn't mean you don't  hope for it...LOL

Well back to the learning curve...and thanks again.

If you setup a base character via native with textures you can save that as a file and pose etc... No need to continually do over.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.
