Subject: UV fun with C5 demo

nomuse ( ) posted Fri, 23 December 2005 at 6:54 PM · edited Sun, 05 July 2026 at 2:56 PM

Was looking to see how C5 deals with inherent UVmapping in a mesh being edited. Created and mapped cylinder and square, applied checkerboard pattern, and started tesselating, filleting, extracting around, and subdividing. All the edge tools respected the previous UVmap; interpolating within the existing UV surface. Subdivision bollixed the map on the cylinder but was fine on square -- and unlike C4pro, I wasn't able to get around the problem by exporting the subdivided cylinder then re-importing. I'll have to try again on a production mesh to see what the issue was. Also crashed the demo, twice, within 30 seconds of starting it up. Neither crash seems to be addressed specifically in the update, but I will refrain from reporting on them until I've run that.

I have had no crashes..also tryin demo. Ram and video card drivers are always supects. Did you get an error? Is this Mac or PC? XP? Another thing to check is any program that may be interfering or incompatible. Like a fw, av etc... if you are on win/xp did you look in xp logs for information?

No need to think outside the box....

Mac. All crashing happened in the VM. I'm not worried -- demos have problems, and the full version has a bug fix out already. I am a little pissed that the upgrade is the same whether you go from C4 or C4Pro. The only reason I got "Pro" was to stay on the pro side of the upgrade path. So I wasted a few hundred bucks there... Still, the ability to use improved edge tools on one of my pre-fitted, pre-mapped meshes is a BIG selling point for me. I've finally got a working method that works for me, and Carrara is on the way to supporting it fully. Now if the next upgrade just includes the UVtools a bit!

Mac seemed a bit buggier. I would like to see better uv and texturing, but it is much better. Actually, if you have c3 or c4 standard it is $299(regularly)If you have c4Pro to c5pro should be 169 reg, but now everything is 20% off. So I am a bit confused there.

Promotions page at Eovia has the $169 for both. I think that is a typographical error, as the online store has the correct pricing for upgrade from Carrara4 Standard. Glad you told me about the 20% off -- as usual, Eovia didn't send an email. They're good, Eovia, but they do have their pecadillos.

Glad I could help...good to know such things. Yeah nice site, but a little confusing at times. I did get an email, but email no where is reliable anymore due to spammers.
