"And do you, Bluebeard, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?" When I saw that this year's theme was "Unhappily Ever After," I immediately thought of the classic tale of Bluebeard. For those unfamiliar with this centuries-old tale, it is about a man who had been married several times. He always told his new bride that she had complete run of the house - but must never try to open the locked door in the basement. Of course, curiosity would eventually get the better of her, and she would manage to open the door to a room filled with the bodies of his previous wives. In order to protect his dark secret, he would... add his latest wife to the collection! There was no real explanation for his beard being blue, other than to make him seem weird. And, for the record, Bluebeard was NOT a pirate. This image was created in Manga Studio, on and off over a span of four days.
