Poser 13: A World of Possibilities

Feb 26, 2023 at 06:00 am by gToon

"Ice Station" by Brian Romero (Poser QA Lead). Rendered in Poser 13 Beta using light bloom PostFX.

Poser 13 is almost here, and we're excited to share with you some of the new features and improvements that will be included in this latest release. Unfortunately, end-to-end support for unimesh figures will not be included in the initial Poser 13 release. We understand that this is not ideal for content creators looking to seamlessly interchange data with other 3D design tools. To help with this, we have been working to improve Poser's design tools to simplify tasks such as creating clothing for figures. Fortunately, end-users creating scenes, rendering images and producing animations will not be affected and will find plenty of cool new features in this release.

So, what can you expect from Poser 13? Let's take a look at some of the highlights.

Updated SuperFly (Cycles X) Render Engine

One of the most significant improvements in Poser 13 is the updated SuperFly render engine. This engine, based on Cycles X, provides dramatically faster rendering times and improved render quality.

Remote Rendering Improvements

If you use remote rendering to speed up your workflow, you'll be pleased to know that Poser 13 includes several improvements in this area. We've added support for more remote rendering services including GPU-based remote render nodes.

More PostFx Operations

Post-processing is an essential part of the rendering process, and in Poser 13, we've added several new PostFx operations to help you achieve the look you want. Some of the new operations include gamma, brightness, contrast and robust light bloom controls.

App Launcher with Start-Up Scenes

We know that everyone has their favorite scenes and settings that they like to use when they start Poser. With Poser 13, you can now set up your own start-up scene, complete with your favorite figures, props, and settings. We've also included an app launcher that makes it easy to access your start-up scene and other frequently used features.

Reduced Installer Download Size

We've also made some changes to the Poser installer in Poser 13. The installer is now smaller and more streamlined, making it faster and easier to install Poser on your computer.  The Core Content (La Femme figure, etc) that increased the download size of the previous installer has now been moved into Included Content and is now available to download/install on demand inside the app.  The figure to be included as a Default Scene for Poser 13 is still a closely guarded secret.

“Included Content” Reorganization and Improvements

The tremendous amount of included 3D content has always been a differentiator for Poser.  This “Included Content” library has been revisited, re-organized into meaningful chunks and popular content elements updated to take full advantage of the SuperFly render engine.

Content Creator Improvements

If you're a content creator, you'll be pleased to know that we've included several improvements in this area as well. We're improving the tools for morph and weight mapping transfer between figures. This will make creating clothing for Poser faster and easier.

We've also made some improvements to Talk Designer and Walk Designer, making it easier to create realistic animations.  The content location for these tools was also refactored to allow inclusion of figure-specific Talk Design and Walk Designer content from Included Content or from purchased products.

New HDRI Dome Support

Finally, we've added support for new HDRI domes in Poser 13. This allows you to create more realistic lighting and reflections in your scenes.

Windows First with Promising Potential for Mac

In following our recent pattern with releases, the initial release will likely be Windows-only given the concentration of customers on that platform.  We are committed to a Mac release in subsequent updates that will be noteworthy for support of the M1 and M2 chips with Metal GPU support inside the SuperFly render engine.

In conclusion, we understand that the lack of support for unimesh figures may be disappointing to some of our customers. However, we believe that the many other improvements and new features in Poser 13 will more than make up for this. With a faster, more powerful render engine, improved remote rendering, more PostFx operations, and many other improvements, Poser 13 is sure to be a hit with our customers. We can't wait for you to try it out!

Comments

Windows only initially? Let's face it; Poser has never really supported Mac users, and I don't expect this release will be any different.
Sounds promising!
This "unimesh support". Does that mean that the newer Daz Studio figures are supported? There are a diminishing number of Poser offerings, and the higher quality Daz figures make me envious, but I'm an old dog, and I'm reluctant to start over in Daz Studio. If unimesh support does not refer to those figures, please enlighten me as to what it does mean. I am delighted that the Superfly render engine has been upgraded; I've only recently gotten in to that, and it's most impressive.
I hope it final comes with a uninstaller.
Can you explain what you mean by "lack of support for unimesh numbers", will this affect the creation of dynamic clothing for La Femme et l'Homme?
