Subject: Really stupid question - how to save to CR2

deslea ( ) posted Wed, 16 July 2014 at 8:07 AM · edited Sat, 28 March 2026 at 7:00 PM

I'm a Daz user, trying to work in Poser to adapt some content, and I'm insanely confused.

The product I'm working on is a morph product. I have all the morphs loaded onto V4 in a Poser file (PZ3).

My goal is to save this setup of V4 into a CR2 so I can use it as a source file for D3D's Poser Tool Collection to generate the INJ/REM files for my new morphs.

I know this is a stupid stupid question but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out exactly how one makes a CR2 file. I've read several old threads from people asking the same question, and the answers are always along the lines of, "Save it to the library and the CR2 just happens." But my only options are to "Save as" (pz3) or export as OBJ and various other things that don't seem to have anything to do with this. (Poser 2012 x64). And I don't know what "saving to the library" actually means. I thought the library was the runtime and that's for files you want to use as an ongoing resource (like bought products). In Daz you wouldn't mix your one-off scenes with your library like that, and I can't imagine that Poser would automatically make a whole new CR2 of V4 every single time you used her in a scene. So there's obviously some implicit/ordinary knowledge that would make this make sense, but not to a non-Poser user like me.

Would someone be good enough to tell me a dumbed-down version of the file options/menu steps/whatever I need to use to do this? This task just seems to assume knowledge that I just don't have, even when people explain it.

feels stupid

You didn't say which Poser version. I'll assume it's P8 or higher.

The library window has buttons in the top and bottom. You will use both.

Select your figure in preview window so it's the "current" figure.

In the library, across the top, are categories (round buttons - active one is yellow) - click the first one called "Figures".

Pick a folder - or make a new one. Which folder is selected is where you're going to save to.

[ To make a new folder first, on the bottom of the library click the + button that is inside a folder - hover tip is "Create New Folder" ]

On the bottom, click the + button (hover tip "Add to Library.")

From there it should be obvious. Your new CR2 will appear in the library.

If you have compression enabled in general settings, it will be a CRZ file - that's a zipped cr2.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Oh, thank you so much! I was tearing my hair out, and making frustrated noises that scared my cats. :) Much appreciated!
