Description
I've been reading a lot about Greek mythology recently, and the one story in particular that intrigued me is that of the love triangle between Ares the God of War, Aphrodite the Goddess of Love and her husband Hephaestus the God of Fire (and Metalworking and Forges).
The legend says that Hephaestus was born lame and deformed, and that his mother Hera threw him from the top of Mount Olympus because he was imperfect. Hephaestus won his place back in Olympus due to his talents with making wondrous weapons and devices, and he was married off to Aphrodite by Zeus to prevent a war between the gods fighting for her hand.
It was said that Aphrodite lived up to her title as the Goddess of Love and indeed 'loved' many others other than her husband, including Ares the God of War. When Hephaestus finally discovered the tryst between Ares and his wife, he devised an unbreakable net that he cast over the pair after laying a 'honey trap' for them, shaming them in front of all the other gods.
Despite tricking Aphrodite and Ares into revealing their affair, Hephaestus never got the retribution he desired, and Ares effectively got away without punishment. Aphrodite? She carried on with her amorous ways and bore two sons to Poseidon and one to Hermes and refused to ever lay with Hephaestus who in turn refused to ever divorce her.
Like the majority of the Greek myths the morality in this legend is very questionable and in many ways reflects a lot of what we see in modern day society. I'd recommend reading these myths, even if it is only to see the similarities with our own lives today.
Enjoy!

The Classical myths are a great source, its so much more fun when the Gods are capricious, not entirely exemplary and have all the foibles of mortals...
This is an exceptional render, with wonderfully observed poses and expressions and a wealth of absorbing derail. Super stuff!
