Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 Apr 22 10:09 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Where To Go To Ask PoserPython Questions Now?

Well, this forum now seems almost as dead as the proverbial dodo.

So....

Where To Go To Ask PoserPython Questions Now?

The 3Dcheapskate (also available in DAZ and HiveWire3D flavours) occasionally posts sensible stuff. Usually by accident.
And it usually uses Poser 11, with units set to inches. Except when it's using Poser 6 or PP2014, or when its units are set to PNU.

What is your question?

Hi Phil, glad to see this forum's not quite as dead as it looks! ;o)

I've just started messing with some new (to me) stuff in PoserPython and I can forsee several more questions in the near future. The two most recent ones are posted here already - How to filter out all 'special' prop actors ? (which bagginsbill answered) and Check/Uncheck "Display Origin" (Properties Tab) ? which I don't think is possible, but wanted to double check on.

(The reason for this current thread is that I've just about reached the end of my tether here at Renderosity... but I'm not aware of any other forums where PoserPython questions regularly get answered)

No I can not find any display origin method either. What I do when something like this is needed is to get Python to write a pose file with the required commands in it then have Python apply it to the actor.

Thanks Phil, I should have thought of that - I'm already writing/applying pose files to ensure smartparenting is done properly, as per D3D's 2008 Problem With SetParent thread

Regarding the original question of this thread,i.e. "Where To Go To Ask PoserPython Questions Now?", it seems that PhilC and markschum are still here, and bagginsbill and snarlygribbly are over at CGbytes (although bagginsbill has responded to a couple of queries here at Renderosity in the past month). Not sure about where the other helpful folk (ockham and others) are lurking.

As an experiment I've started asking the same question on several different forums to see who (if anybody) responds where.
