Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 May 19 9:23 pm)
Okay, I'm running Windows 8.1 (not 8.13), and the version of Poser 10 that I have is 10.0.3.26066 (without the update) which means I don't need the update, I'm guessing.
When Windows 8.1 came out my Poser 8 stopped working, and I was told that Poser 10 would work with the new Windows version. Everything else looks good, but just no libraries. Sometimes I get the "Add Libraries" button to show (after re-opening P10 a few times), but it doesn't work, and most of the time the entire Libraries area is empty.
...the problem is IE 11. And IE 11 comes with the windows 8.1 upgrade, so I have to roll back to widows 8.0. I even don't know if this possible but it's sure a lot of work. at least it takes 2 hours, which was in fact the time it took to upgrade. And just because my poser library doesn't work.
Every other program I use works perfect with the new 8.1 upgrade, but poser is useless at the moment, I really hope SM will come with a fix very soon because this is ridiculous!

According to the Readme, SR2 should enable compatability with Windows 8.1, and SR3 was released on the 20th, after the 11.0.1 update to Win 8.1. This is likely a different issue. Do your firewall settings allow Poser access to to the internet?

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."There was never IE 10 in 8.1; it came with 11; some are apparently confusing your problems with an issue with IE11 for Windows 7. Since Poser 10 SR2 or higher is stated to work with 8.1, this is likely something else.
With Poser running browse in the Poser Program directory to Runtime/ui/FlexLSMGUI/Flex/bin-release/ and open LSMGUI.html in a web browser with a working flash plugin installed; does the Poser Library appear?

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."I contacted with SM support and they gave an usual solution: delete your preference files and if that doesn't work reïnstall poser and use the latest service release. I did that twice and the library still doesn't work as it should be: it does something but it seems to work extremely slow.
I checked my firewall settings, but poser is allowed to access the internet as it should be.

No, it doesn't! and I checked: I have the latest flash-release

Quote - I have no idea what a working flash plugin is. lol
Adobe Flash. If you can watch YouTube videos, you have a working one...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."That means that something is blocking Poser's Internet access; it uses the so-called loopback address of your computer, 127.0.0.1, to communicate with the library GUI. Do you have firewall software running? If not, Windows Firewall could still be blocking access. Here is how to enable access for the Windows Firewall in Windows 7; Presumably 8.1 is similar...

Did you ever get it to be fully operational? I see that it is loading in the program while it's loading in IE, but it's extremely slow, and some of the buttons, etc., still aren't showing. Maybe they need more time?
So, once it loads on the program, will it always be there, or do I have to HTML it every time I want to use Poser10?
Last night Poser support was helping me troubleshoot the problem, and after many failed attempts to fix the issue I, personally, have come to the conclusion that Poser 10 just isn't going to work with my Windows 8.1 hp Phoenix Envy system.
Shouldn’t it just be as easy as it was when I installed Poser8 for the first time, or Carrara Pro (Which I passed up for this)?
Quote - I have the same system, so that make sense.
So what do we do now?
I, truly, have no idea. I guess I'll just wait for tech support to reply to my last entry, and see what they have to offer. I've been considering asking for a refund, and doing what I wanted in the first place. Purchase the new Carrara Pro version.
Four hours? you have a lot more patience then I have, I gave up after one hour because I thought it was frozen. Perhaps I have to try again and keep it running for a night. But I really hope SM finds a solution, because this isn't normal and extrenely annoying.
I had a good running system before I upgraded to windows 8.1, I really regret that I did this.

Well, the truth is... I forgot it was running. lol But when I looked at it, more things had popped up. It appears to me that it's a matter of loading more than missing elements. THis is just my take on it. By no means do I know exactly what's going on.
Right now,the library window is open, with visible tabs, and the different sections are actually trying to show up (character, face, materials, hands, etc., etc., etc.).
Who knows what may happen in the next hour or by morning. lmao!
I can't say that I regret updating my computer. This is strictly an SM problem we're dealing with here. THey need to step up to the plate. And it's possible that they have, they just haven't hit the ball yet ;)

You're probably right, everything else works fine for me, besides some smalll hickups. I hope Sm will come up with a solution soon. I was a bit irritated because I use Poser almost everyday, well, I think I have to find me a good book.
Thank you for keeping me up with your efforts.
regards,
Bopper.

Okay, after about 6 to 8 hours of leaving Poser10 open, it accepted my request to add my daz library. About two hours after that I still couldn't see the library, but in the search tab I could search for items and after about thirty minutes or so it would find it, thus allowing me to add it to a scene. Although it did take quite some time before it actually made it to the scene.
Still can't see the library though...
Okay, a little recap on what's happened so far:
This entire even took approximately 12hrs to complete, and after that I needed some sleep. The interesting thing to me is the amount of time needed for these events to take place.
So, what would make Poser10 run so slowly?
What makes or breaks the viewing of the library window contents while P10 is actually reading them (tabs, buttons, etc., etc.)?

These machines come with McAfee LiveSafe security suite. Did you tell it to allow Poser access to the internet?

I know that this has been discussed before, but it always seems to end with the P10 update.
I just purchased P10 from SM, installed it, and all of its contents, then installed the update, rebooted my computer, and opened P10 for the first time. No libraries, but sometimes I get the library tabs, but they don't function correctly (Unable to add runtimes, etc).
I'm running Windows 8.13 (I think it's three).
