Getting re-acquainted with an old love affair: 'Between-the-Wars' aircraft. Those of you old enough to remember 'Blackhawk' comics will recognize the XF5F Grumman Skyrocket in these planes, tho' I've changed the tail somewhat. That was borrowed from the Westland Whirlwind, a British fighter/bomber that always looked to be hellafast, but I've never seen much on it's operational history. [Anyone out there know this one?] The XF5F was a pretty hot little fighter, followed the F4F Wildcat in development, but had some teething troubles and was never bought by the Navy. Reputedly could fly rings around the F4U Corsair.

Fantastic modeling! and i am kind of curious on the insignia markings on the craft .
Cool! Nice modeling and I like sand/water/land mix.
I only remember the Lockheed F-90 look-a-likes in "Blackhawk" comics. That's not entirely true I remember the "War Wheel" though not directly. Grumman designs surface the concept of a "requirement." These birds then are acting out a version of the requirement that sat on Frank Grumman's desk and that he consulted as he drafted the lines and calculated the areas and drags. That would be an interesting piece of paper to find at Southby's or Christie's some day. This is my favorite "what if." "What if jet engines were impossible to make."
Insignia and markings? The diamond/checkered pattern on the cowlings was common on P-47 squadrons. The 33 [O]K is patterned after the British usage seen on Spitfires and Hurricanes. On the red/white/black symbol: I tried many other designs, but they all looked forced, hokey...like nobody would ever actually use such a design. So I settled on the familiar rondel. The coral atoll was made in Vue d'Esprit and used as a background. I too remember the F-90 look-alike. It was when the Blackhawks could not put off joining the jet era. It never had the character of the XF5F, and sorta marked the end of my reading Blackhawk. Thanks for the comments.
