Description
I didn't want to make this image, but it seemed to have a mind of its own, so here it is. Two years ago a friend of mine named Kim was diagnosed with cancer. It began in his throat but has spread from there to his lungs and brain. Kim was a strong man, and full of the joy of life (he originally weighed about 230 lbs.) He has received radiation therapy (which required the loss of his teeth) and chemotherapy for periods as long as he could physically endure it. Each time he has stopped therapy he has rebounded and gotten stronger and got back his appetite, even gaining some weight back, but the cancer keeps coming back. After the last round of chemo was halted, he has not recovered, and continues to weaken by the day. I helped him connect his feeding tube and did whatever else I could to make him confortable yesterday. He is at home and receives hospice care and has many other caring friends, but he lives some distance from me and I can't manage to visit him more than once a week. I try to be cheerful while I am with him, but the sadness is overwhelming at times. So I made this image, hoping it would help somehow. I am sorry that this image is not pleasant for you to view.
John

That is an excellent image. Not all art should be pleasant to view. I think it is very kind of you to be helping your friend in so many ways.
A stunning representation of real life. Thousands suffer similar circumstances. Kim is fortunate to have someone like you as a friend.
you did good. show him this image and comments about it may cheer him up a little. Sorry to hear this
Revisiting what Kim actually means to you is by far the best antidote for the overwhelming feelings. Expressions help as I'm sure your focus on this one has. My thoughts are with you both.
It may not be pleasant, but it is honest and honourable - qualities which can trascend technique and beauty any time. Thank you for posting it and allowing us to share. Maybe knowing that we care with you will help the both of you!
It is sad. To feel overwhelmed by it is understandable. I hope that you can find the strength you need. Hugs for you and your friend.
I think cancer is a double edged sword. It hurts the one with the cancer and all the ones close. My mother in law recently passed from it. My father has just been given the all clear. SO I've seen it. We all do what we can. I wish your friend peace and to be pain free and wish you continued strength. You're a good friend and doing all you can and I'm sure your friend realises that.
Art is a healthy way to express feelings. It doesnt matter what kind of feelings you have in mind. In recent years Ive confronted death way to often. In that moments all a true friend has to do is to be there. Presence is more important than words. Give my regards to your friend.
A strong portrayal, my mum fought cancer for 11 years before she finally passed on, She was a strong believer that your state of mind and support of your friends has a huge impact in the battle against this disease. By fighting so hard she got to see both her sons married, although she never got to see her grand children. Others have said it, but I also wish your friend peace and hope that he finds that inner strength to continue the struggle.
I am so sorry for your friend John.
