Description

This is a Georgian mansion built between 1754 and 1768 and was the home of Charles Carroll. Carroll was a barrister who was a framer of Maryland's first constitution and Declaration of Rights. What was a plantation in the 18th C. became surrounded by railroad yards, etc. many of which are still to be seen. The mansion and its surrounding property were purchased to be a park in 1890. What is it with these local historical societies? The above was from the plaque in the thumbnail. Charles Carroll was also Maryland's signer of the Declaration of Independence (not an ignorable fact).

http://www.charlescarroll.net/ Easter Sunday, it's closed, but this means there are no crowds to postwork out of the images. The overcast sky kept all but a few odd cars out of the parking lot. Hmmmmm.

Dear TW, I've gotten behind on gallery visits, AGAIN, but I'll be catching up - it's really awful but sometimes Meredith has to work - darn! It getting harder and harder to keep up with all my friends! I need a 72 hour day at least! But then I suspect that we all could use one. You play tricks, mt friend. As I read through the test I kept saying to myself - wasn't this guy one of the signers? But then you save for the last! In fact, I seem to remember that his autograph is one of the rarer ones - perhaps second only to Button Gwinnett (sp?) Beautiful georgian architecture and very well preserved considering the age of the brick and the inevitable freeze/thaw damage. You gallery is always such an interesting travelogue! Excellent work!! Love, Meredith
