Description
Did this last week while experimenting with mapping modes AND after reading the "What is art?" thread in the Bryce Forum. What is art? If 532 handpainted scientifically arranged bowling balls isn't art, then I don't know what is.
photo textures from animax
Please take this with a bit of sarcasm ;)

explanation: Using World Top mode with an image, you have to adjust scale, rotation and offset quite a bit to fit the image to whatever your applying it to. The scale on this is x= -3.5%, y= -2% and z= -4.3%. I used the preview window in the material lab, set to "actual selection"(grouped spheres).

oh wow! awesome stuff!
Cool...
That really is rather clever. Not sure how you did it. But it's cool. No one in real life would do that. They would be crazy. Then again, maybe they would.
Eeek! gasp How long did it take you to hand-paint all those balls? (It's okay, I'm not really that naieve - how did you do it?) Excellent!
That's just wild!
Fantastic work of... ah, art? How do we know they are bowling balls? Where are the 3 little holes! Anyway, very clever and great work.
Excellent and imaginative depiction of the Mona: I would certainly go and view this if exhibited in the Tate Modern in London.
Its a very creative idea and outcome Congrats real nice and interresting piece of art
well, i think it's brilliant! :) i like how you managed to recreate the mona lisa using colored balls... very cool and a unique great idea. :)
Oooohh! Damnably clever, think I'll try that! Stunning concept, bravo.
WOW!!!!! What a fantastic idea! Beautifully done. Wonderful is too weak a work to describe this excellence. Just plain GREAT art!
HAHAHAHAHA....Oh yes....bowling for mona is art...the work put into making mona bowl is out of the box art....only the best! Glad the sleeping disorder series is over...heavy wheew I was afraid the poor dear would wake up to some nasty pests, and sure if I clicked your image to open it.....aaaaacccckkk smiles Great stuffs!
Nice idea,.........well executed.
Dang, that is cool as hell! I wouldn't think something like this would be possible, but apparently it is.
very imaginative artwork. I love it.
...I like the way you think.
Amazing work with light ! I'm astonished !
Ok now this is just way too cool Dave.. you just amaze me! =)
I see you've taken the first cue shot. Excellent application of the mapping mode... Just one question or comment, I'm guessing the balls outside of the image box would or could tile the world texture, but seems you've not enabled tiling and/or set their textures independently. I gotta say that's the correct number of balls too, 532! just the right amount of breakup.
that art to me lol real good
great, i like it. wow
Pretty cool! I would have never thought of using that mapping mode in this way...!
