Description
The best known underwater motorcycles are located in the cargo hold of SS Thistlegorm in Red Sea.
There are BSA W-M20 (in the picture?), Norton 16H and Matchless G3L motorcycles in the cargo holds of SS Thistlegorm.
A brief history: SS Thistlegorm was sunk 6th of October 1941 while carrying supplies to British Army. For more information just do some surfing and you'll find a lot of detailed information.
Photo was taken with Nikonos and 16mm lens with Ikonos 105 flash.
Unfortunately the scanner was not the top quality so the picture needed a bit of re-work to get rid of the "dust" from scanning.
Thanks for stopping by.

What a wonderful slice of history :)
Thanks for the photo. I love classic motorcycles and am saddened, somewhat, that these faced such an untimely end. I am a bit surprised to see that the tires are largely intact. And thanks for the history lesson. :-)
very good expression :) .. excellent stuff
A bit of addition information about the bikes: it has not been the sea and salt that has damaged the bikes most but unfortunately the (STUPID)tourist-divers who had taken (with violence) a piece here and piece there... for example almost none of the bikes has handlebars anymore. About the rubber: there are also a lot of rubber boots in very good shape (almost like new).
