Description
No postwork or anything fancy here. I just want to give viewers an idea of the scale of what follows....
This is Stone Mountain Park outside Atlanta, Georgia. The mountain was a quarry, is now a park. It is over 800 feet tall and I forget how long. For several decades, a bas-relief monument to Confederate soldiers has been an on-off-on project interrupted by minor things such as two world wars and a major depression... as well as funding issues. The final project is smaller than anticipated, but there is no way anyone will put a life-size replica of this in their backyard.
President Jeff Davis, General Robert E. Lee, and General "Stonewall" Jackson doff their hats for all to view.
At one point coins were to be struck to help raise funds. That's the inspiration for the thumbnail. Not quite what the coins would have been, but I thought the image made pretty neat nickels.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Interesting! Little grey! Excellent shot!!!
impressive relief carving, imagine it would take quite a lot of work, wonder just how grand a scale they first conceived of :]
stunning object you captured here!
