A cougar hit the "Boy's" around dusk. They took off in all different directions. Canyon and water ways split them up after that. It will take a day or two but most will re-join the herd. Too bad they don't know you do not have to be fastest, just faster than the slowest horse. The "Boys" are in unfamiliar territory. They take it slow, due to snakes, holes and quicksand along the water.. The Moon hangs in the sky. A few transparent clouds help light the land for them to see their way. River reflecs the "shine" and the hills and cliffs Turn the light to black. The Stallion and the bay have crossed the last of the quicksand, but the Paint seems leery. A Noise! The Big Gray hesitates, Head held high, listening, waiting.! He holds one foot up ready to spin if needed. They don't want to go back through the Quicksand. The only way out is up the brush laden trail. Two Chipmunks watch the horses. Horses are the Chipmunks only fun. They don't see the scorpion yet, but they will.
