Description
I saw two old souls
Sitting on a front porch swing together
and wondered, as I watched
What they were like when they were young?
Did they know the passions of youth
The heart pounding terrible longings
Did they know the pain of an unfaithful lover
or the joy of love returned?
Do they dream of days when skin was firm
Unwrinkled...
And eyes still bright, undimmed?
Do they still see each other
In their glorious youth, laughing,planning,hoping?
To have shared lifes road together
As they now share the front porch swing
What patience must have grown there
The sharing of burdens
Such loving care must have been given
Lord,
Grant me, that on my road of life
There might be someone on the end
With whom I may look back with
At all the sharing and loving we've known
So that someday
Someone
Might see us together on that front porch swing
and
Wonder~

Wonderful, my dear Susan..."old souls" are lucky to be together! Excellent poem!!!
Excellent .... here's hoping you and 'yours' are already, or soon will be, on that front porch swing!
Beautiful verse Susan,I would love to make an image to go with it.I can picture them both so clearly. It is wonderful when your words can evoke such imagery and emotion.Excellent poetry.V
Exquisite! I may use this as a prayer! There is not much road left, and my swing is still only half full! Bravo!
beautiful & very thoughtful poem... i've often wondered myself but after working with older folks for years, it warms my heart to see a love endure so much, when one starts talking the other can finish the thought, where one loses their hearing the other their sight, they rely on each other so much... a long love... one that is constantly renewed through the hardships... wonderful & touching words suzy hugz :]
I often see couples like this and their peace and contentment with each other is a joy to behold. The tenderness with which they look at each other is a truely heartwarming sight to see. Beautiful poem, capturing moments of a lifetime!
Exquisite poem. You have really captured the journey of life and love with your heartfelt words that are so full of wisdom and tenderness. I have a soulmate and imagine us siting on that swing someday, recalling our springtime - and just enjoying being together. Very beautiful poetry - and a VOTE. :O) CC
Very beautiful poem, Susan ! This is full of tenderness and they are still together to share their thoughts... that's so rare at our days but it extists... you met them :)
wonderful and heart felt absitively lovely :looks around :: now where is my swing oh hubby ::grin :: may your swing be full of joy such as mine
And they will... but hopefully at least a few will touch spirits, many which never grow old.
excellent poem, this really touched me
I entered this place with a bit of a dread in my heart, I was not sure if I would understand the poems, was never good at it at school. I read this poem and the closeness to the reality in the subject really touched my heart and yes, I do see a couple swining as you mentioned and yes, these were the ver questions that came to my heart...... even now I look at them and wonder as one has become old and the other tries to help him with her own feeble hands, the message of love, i can feel. Thanks friend such lovely treat.:O)) SNAKEY
This is very sweet, and I am going to go out and get me a glider style porch swing one day.. for sure.. This is wonderful.
Talk about making you think, wow can you come up with the words, this one has to touch the heart of all that read it, outstanding my friend......John
Exactly what they are thinking.

Wow, you have a way with words. Wish I had this kind of talent. Dave :^>
This is a warm and generous poem ... and just the right length. It's good to see a poem about older folk which is nor patronising. Bravo!
Another outstanding read and write! And I do believe that the heart is always in bliss, no matter how old you are... Hugs, Sherri Emily
My Mom and Dad. Dad now gone one. Mom still with me, or rather, me with her. No one for me. So sad to see the future as being alone.
