SPECIAL
--------
On March 6th, 2004 I had the special honor of going up in a World War 2 North American SNJ Texan trainer over Chino, California (from the Planes of Fame Museum) and meet up with a North American P-51D Mustang (my favorite plane of all time) and take my first ever Air-To-Air photos!!! :) What a way to get a start into that. It was actually my first ever small plane right, and aside from a commercial plane to Oahu and back, my second ever time in a airplane! Wow was it amazing and so much fun. (I even got to fly the Texan for a little while!!)
Taken in a North American SNJ Texan
This aircraft is a North American P-51D Mustang named 'Spam Can'. It is painted in the colors of a P-51 squadron in the Pacific on Iwo Jima. She was just polished a few weeks earlier, thus the beautiful shine on her. Here the pilot in the SNJ Texan radioed to the P-51 Mustang to Break '3, 2, 1, BREAK!' so I could some shots as she banked away from us. This was the start of the bank, and let me tell you one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. :) It will be a day long remembered for the rest of my life. I will post more photos from this session in the next few days.
Camera is a digital Minolta Dimage 7hi (5 MP). This image has been shrunk down to 33% of the original full size. Manual Focus, custom White Balance, and custom contrast/exposure value settings to help in the harsh reflections from the shiney aluminum.

ah, good old P-51...
This is a totally awesome image, as well as a totally awesome bird. Grew up reading about the Flying Tigers in China. This airframe has a fascinating history.
Wow! Very impressive. Glad you got to go up there! I look foreward to seeing more.
Excellent shot!
I saw three of them plus a p-38 flying in formation over tucson today, quite a site indeed.
TR tr belle photo. Give us more !!!
That is a fine shot! Beautifully sharp!
Beautiful picture
Sounds like someone had an exciting day, he says with a touch of envy. Nice POV; thanks for sharing. ;-)
Nice. This plane is one of my favorites as well. My maternal grandfather worked at North American Aviation during WWII, and was on the design team that created the Mustang. I remember him showing me some of the original engineers drawings for the plane when I was a kid...I hope you can post more photos from this shoot, well done!
Amazing photo. You are so close to the other plane! You would love to visit Tucson, Arizona (where I live) - we have the "bone yards" here where thousands upon thousands of plane are stored. It's an amazing site and one I bet you would appreciate.
I always wanted to have a color shot of this in my gallery, but all the pictures I took were of a model that I made and of such low quality. This and the others you have of this are really great.
Excellent. You need to start putting together a book of your work.
