Description
These old trees came to life from a couple of ideas I wanted to try out.
First, I wanted to see if I could make a decent tree trunk from a terrain map created in Photoshop. In five trys, I wound up with two good pics to use as terrain maps; one for the hollow stump and one for the tree trunks. I'll let you in on a secret: The tree trunks don't extend much farther than the top of the image. above that is a set of cherry trees to make the shading for the scene.
Second, I wanted to work with some of the brushes in Photoshop to create some ground coverage elements. In this case, the leaves on and under the water.
Creating the elements proved to be the easy part. Texturing them was the hard part. The trees are an altered version of the "Dead tree" texture with a very complex mix on the hollow stump.
The turtle is from the standard Vue install.
Vue 4 on a Mac; No postwork.

Looks great. I know this is tricky, but I think you should work a little more on the greyscale levels of the bitmap, to get more "flat" roots. Nice work as is.
