Description
::: Part 10 (oddly enough the same number in the series as the Comic Con/San Diego Photos!) of a series of Warbird Photos :::
Taken at the monthly event at the Planes of Fame Museum on Chino Airport, California. This month, it was on "Air War over Korea" (8/2/03)
Aircraft is a P-51D Mustang, which was used in Korea. Though this particular Mustang did not, the P-51 (or F-51 when the US Air Force was seperated from the Army in the late 50s) played an important role in Korea and shot down some MiG jets. One major thing that helped the Mustang stay in service was it's role as a napalm bomber. It surprises most people when they realize that in Korea, we were still using a lot of World War 2 machines! Even with the F-86 Sabre, we still used the good 'ole Mustangs, Corsairs, Bearcats, etc. This particular Mustang is called 'Wee Willy II' and is actually built from the parts of a racing P-51 Mustang (the 'Red Baron') which crashed. World famous pilot Steve Hinton owns this P-51 Mustang.
Camera is a digital Minolta Dimage 7hi (5 MP). This image is only 33% of the original full size that was taken. Manual Focus, custom White Balance, custom Contrast and Exposure setting adjustments, and it's on Shutter priority mode.
