Description
For an entire week at the end of August, I was required to maintain a face-down position following surgery to repair a macular hole in the retina of my right eye. Fortunately, I was able to rig up a stand to house my laptop, allowing me to pass the many long hours doing what I love – 3d modeling and Bryce rendering. Without that, I think I surely would have lost it! Even the 2026 Vuelta a Espana and the Season 22 StarCraft ASL tournament could not provide the same level of engaging distraction that constructing the Zerg Ultralisks in the accompanying image offered.
As of this writing in late October, many weeks later, the intra-ocular gas bubble, used as a sort of scaffolding to allow the macula to heal, has mostly been absorbed by the surrounding tissue and the vision markedly improved in the affected eye. With so many of my now elderly friends facing much more serious health issues, I am truly grateful to have a condition that promises full recovery.
The models, such as they are, were fashioned using Wings3d and Sculptris, rendered in Bryce5, with PSP 8 providing the tools for post-work. As always, thanks for lookin’, and stay healthy y’all!

This is, once again, a fantastic piece of work. And perhaps it will be some comfort to you: about three years ago, I had a retinal detachment in my left eye. After several surgeries—including two instances where a gas bubble was placed in my eye—I can still see out of that eye, even if the vision is a bit distorted. You get used to it, and eventually, it feels as though it had never been any other way ;)
