Standing on the edge of any cliff is never an easy thing for me to do, as the many scenarios of how easily I can slip off the edge of the cliff into an instant death often crosses my mind. This self preservation thinking is what perhaps keeps us alive a bit longer than most! lol :)

I actually remember suddenly getting dizzy with my head spinning, and nearly lost my balance. But simply sitting down quickly cured that.

Yet I'm still glad they didn't build any tacky railings on cool ledges like that;-)

Fabulous photos from the Grand Canyon! I would also get extremely uncomfortable at the edge of a cliff. Kudos for being able to take these shots!

And yet there are people who dive off cliffs like that with their little sail-wings made of fabric and sticks!

though I'm new to your gallery, the more I see the more I realize you've done a lot in your life, incl several mediums of art...I'm not suprised you crawled to the edge of doom to get these beautiful shots. Sweet detail, and there's a lot going on in that stone (which you caught). The river is almost incidental to all the 'activity' in the rock. I understand crawling to get a shot, though I've never done it this high up. (Saw Caty's image just now---yeah you'd never get me standing there, I'm from the midwest where 20 feet is nosebleed territory for us---standing over chasms ain't in our wheelhouse...)

Real detail in your shots, and non-photographers have no idea what photographers go through to get a shot. Kudos. (Here's James Nachtwey photographing a street war---he's the guy facing us: he's been shot at, injured, you name it...this shot is just one of several, in case you haven't seen it yet...just to make you feel good about nearly killing yourself to get a shot of some "rocks" lol. That James guy sure was a brave soul ... and not even wearing a helmet, even though that sort of danger is on a whole different level!

And walking into mountains after years of living on flat-land sure can be a thrilling and jarring experience;-) But eventually you can get used to anything:-)

Dizzying view, even if it's a photo

I wish it was in full 3D ... that would look 100 times scarier.

A stereo head-set would make that possible, but the original scene would need to be double-captured about 4 inches apart.

You were wise, then :) In the year those photos were taken, I wasn't yet "standing" anyway lol But even now, I don't think I would come that close from such a high! I can less but not until that.

Beside the river, is that a road we see?

The one by the river is an unpaved path. The second photo has a small stream.

And it's hard to believe that 42 years have passed since then;-)
