Sehr cool. So große Libellen soll es ja mal gegeben haben. Wenn es eine Mücke wäre würde ich sagen, das ist ein Bild aus Schweden :D
Ja, während des Karbon-Zeitalters gab es diverse sehr große Libellennarten, die größte bislang bekannte war Meganeura, die Ausgrabungen zufolge eine Flügelspannweite von etwas mehr als 70 (!!!) Zentimetern erreichte! Und sie war, soweit mir bekannt, nicht die einzige übergroße Art, wenngleich auch die anderen Arten etwas kleiner waren. Überhaupt gab es im Karbon Unmengen großer Insekten und Gliederfüßer. Arthropleura z.B., ein Tausendfüßler, erreichte eine Länge von 2,5 Metern. Dieser Riesenwuchs wurde möglich, weil im Karbon der Sauerstoffanteil in der Atmosphäre wesentlich höher war als heute, dazu noch ein feucht-heißes Klima herrschte. Es gab auch große vogelspinnenähnliche Gliederfüßer, die auch sicherlich nicht harmlos waren.
Kurzum, eine Periode, in der ich nicht unbedingt Urlaub machen wollte. 😄
Zumindest nicht ohne einem Insekten-spray in Tankwagengröße :D
amazing imagination in these. Some of them have the gigantic insects on gorgeous tables, or on other surfaces,with ornament and symbols that suggest great age and significance. Some of the images have columns in the background, or temples; and at least one is surrounded by ruins. This is research from the ages, and the examiner seems to be part insect as well. Some of these reminded me of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein (though I only saw a part of the film)---in the lab settings and ornate detail. A huge imagination in these pieces. And I enjoyed your discussion of the Carbiniferous Period (from my pitifully inadequate Deutsch), and lordi's comment about gigantic insect spray. Basically, if insects were that big today, I'd rent out a condo on Mars...Very imaginative work.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! This series is a hybrid of two of my passions: my fondness for prehistoric eras and my love for fantasy and horror movies. I also love "what if" scenarios and enjoy combining them with unusual settings and ideas that haven't been done to death! I admit, creating something truly unique and new often stems from spontaneous inspiration rather than complex deliberation—at least for me! :)
These research objects certainly have size working for them, as that large dragonfly would have no problem lifting and taking off with my small Pomeranian dog! I have to keep this four legged small dog away from these specimens! lol :)
